Today we’d like to introduce you to Luke Kuiper.
Hi Luke, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I finished up high school in St. Louis at Westminster Christian Academy. During my last two years of High school and college I worked for Belmont Party Rentals during the summer breaks/winter breaks/thanksgiving and weekends when I returned to St. Louis. Post graduation I had a career in software sales, account management, operations and a stint of active duty military service. The Belmont family and I stayed in touch and in 2021 they reached out about coming back on full time to help scale the business. I joined in 2022, and we have experienced tremendous growth since then. My background in software and operations in addition to having prior experience at Belmont Party Rentals in high school and college helped me hit the ground running. The Belmont family has done a tremendous job building the best reputation in St. Louis, and with a few technological and operational tweaks we have been able to build something really special. We are tripling our warehouse space in 2026, and the future is looking bright!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The Belmont family had the tough years and brought me on when they had already done all the hard work. In 2022 and 2023 there were long days where I was out helping with deliveries, answering the phone and then responding to customers at the end of the day. 12 hour days were not uncommon. As we continued to grow my role shifted into sales/operations and I was in the field less.
As you know, we’re big fans of Belmont Party Rentals. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Belmont Party Rentals is the bread and butter of event rentals. We rent out tables, chairs, staging, dance floors, catering equipment, tents and linens. We excel in commonly rented equipment, and don’t dip our toes into decor or design. We are the easiest company to work with in St. Louis. We are kind, consistent and deliver a delightful experience. I am proud of how our crews conduct themselves, how we treat our customers, and how we interact with our vendors. It is a wonderful feeling to work for, and help build a company that treats others well.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
Todoist for reminders/project management. Base44 Superagents for ongoing tasks, industry intel and backend functions. I read quite a bit and am always reading something helpful (business/case studies etc) and something enjoyable (Lord of the Rings).
In order for me to function at a high level I first focus on my relationship with Jesus, then my physical health, then my relationship with my wife, then family, then work. Focusing on what matters most helps me to not sweat the small stuff, and work with purpose towards meaningful milestones.
