Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Good.
Hi Michael, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My story is one of rebuilding, perseverance, and refusing to let my past define my future. I’m Michael Good, also known professionally as MrGoodGoesHard. I’m an Air Force veteran, author, recording artist, entrepreneur, and the founder of several ventures, including Good Impressions Vinyl Studio, Beat Murda Music Group, and GIVS Incorporated.
I first got involved in music in 2010 and eventually launched Beat Murda Music Group to create opportunities not only for myself but for other artists as well. Over the years, I expanded into writing and publishing, releasing books inspired by real-life experiences, including incarceration, reentry, personal growth, and overcoming adversity.
One of the most transformative chapters of my life came after serving a federal prison sentence. While that experience was difficult, it forced me to take a hard look at myself and ultimately became the foundation for many of the businesses, books, and community initiatives I lead today. Instead of allowing that setback to define me, I used it as motivation to build something meaningful.
Today, I own Good Impressions Vinyl Studio, where we create custom apparel and promotional products, and I lead GIVS Incorporated, a nonprofit dedicated to helping families and individuals in need through food giveaways, community events, and resource programs. I’m also continuing to release music, write books, and advocate for second chances.
Where I am today is the result of countless lessons learned, a willingness to start over when necessary, and a commitment to proving that your worst mistake doesn’t have to be the final chapter of your story. My goal now is simple: create opportunities, inspire others, and leave my community better than I found it.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Absolutely not. There were plenty of obstacles along the way, many of them self-inflicted and others simply a part of life.
One of the biggest challenges I faced was serving a federal prison sentence. That experience forced me to confront decisions I had made and take responsibility for them. Rebuilding after incarceration isn’t easy. You face stigma, limited opportunities, and the reality that many people only see your past instead of your potential.
Starting businesses has come with its own set of struggles. People often see the finished product but not the long hours, failed ideas, financial setbacks, and moments of uncertainty that happen behind the scenes. Building Good Impressions Vinyl Studio, growing Beat Murda Music Group, and leading GIVS Incorporated all required patience, persistence, and a willingness to keep going when results weren’t immediate.
I’ve also had to learn how to balance being a businessman, an author, an artist, and a community leader. There were times when I was working so much that personal relationships suffered. Success can be rewarding, but it also demands sacrifices that people don’t always see.
What helped me get through those challenges was refusing to let one chapter of my life define the entire story. Every setback taught me something valuable. Looking back, I wouldn’t say the road was smooth, but I would say every obstacle helped shape the person I am today. The struggles gave me perspective, resilience, and a deeper appreciation for every opportunity I’ve been able to create since.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Good Impressions Vinyl Studio?
My work is centered around three things: creativity, entrepreneurship, and community impact.
I’m the founder of Good Impressions Vinyl Studio, a custom apparel and branding company that helps businesses, organizations, schools, teams, and individuals bring their ideas to life through custom clothing and promotional products. We specialize in high-quality custom apparel, including t-shirts, hoodies, hats, and branded merchandise. What sets us apart is that we’re not just printing designs—we’re helping people build brands. Whether it’s a startup, nonprofit, local business, or community initiative, we take pride in helping our clients create something that represents who they are.
I’m also the founder of Beat Murda Music Group, an independent music label and production company. Through BMMG, I’ve spent years creating music, producing projects, and providing opportunities for artists to develop and distribute their work. As an artist myself, I understand the challenges independent creators face, and I strive to build platforms that allow talent to be seen and heard.
Perhaps the organization closest to my heart is GIVS Incorporated, a nonprofit dedicated to serving the community through food assistance, community events, educational opportunities, and resource-driven programs. Our mission is simple: create opportunities and provide support where it’s needed most. We’re currently working toward establishing a permanent Community Resource Center that will allow us to expand our impact and serve even more families throughout the region.
What sets all of my ventures apart is that they were built from lived experience. None of them were created in a boardroom or funded by large investors. They were built through persistence, lessons learned, and a genuine desire to create something meaningful. Whether I’m writing books, producing music, helping a business launch its brand, or organizing a community event, the goal is always the same: leave people better than I found them.
What I’m most proud of isn’t any single product, song, book, or business achievement. It’s the fact that these brands represent transformation. They prove that setbacks don’t have to be permanent and that it’s possible to build something positive regardless of where you start.
If there’s one thing I’d want readers to know, it’s that every brand I’m involved with exists to create value. Whether through creativity, entrepreneurship, or service, the mission is to inspire people, create opportunities, and demonstrate what’s possible when you refuse to let your circumstances determine your future.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
One thing that surprises a lot of people is that I’m naturally much more reserved than my public image might suggest.
People see the music, the businesses, the community events, the social media posts, and the public speaking, and they assume I’m the loudest person in the room. The truth is, I’m often most comfortable working behind the scenes. I spend a lot of time writing, creating, planning, and building ideas long before anyone ever sees them.
Another thing people may not realize is that many of the things I’m most proud of were born during some of the most difficult periods of my life. Some of my books, business ideas, and long-term goals were developed while I was facing major setbacks and rebuilding from scratch. Those experiences taught me that growth doesn’t always happen when everything is going well. Sometimes it happens when you’re forced to start over.
I think people also assume my work is spread across a lot of different industries—music, publishing, apparel, nonprofit work—but in my mind, it’s all the same mission. Whether I’m writing a book, producing a song, creating a t-shirt design, or organizing a community event, I’m telling stories, creating opportunities, and trying to leave a positive impact.
At the end of the day, I’m less interested in being known for what I’ve accomplished and more interested in being known for what I’ve overcome and how I’ve used those experiences to help others.
