Inspiring Conversations with Rudy Hablewitz of ELEVATEDesign

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rudy Hablewitz. 

Hi Rudy, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I was first introduced to the industry the summer after my senior year of high school. I worked for a local landscaping company from my hometown doing residential installs and rehab projects for 2 years while I attended Kaskaskia Community College. It was there where I grew a strong relationship with my employers and an appreciation for the work they provided the surrounding community. 

I decided to follow in their footsteps and enroll at Southern Illinois University of Carbondale and study landscape horticulture. During my second semester at SIU, I got my first real taste of landscape design. From there it didn’t take long, I knew what I wanted to pursue moving forward. For me, it almost came naturally. I was able to apply the knowledge I had learned in the field along with the drafting classes from high school and use them to my advantage. The following year I was fortunate enough to serve as an assistant for the Dean of Agricultural Science and teach the same design class which ultimately helped me sharpen my tools. 

After bouncing from a couple of jobs post-graduation I started working for a contractor in the St. Louis area designing residential exterior projects revolving around custom pool builds. This was my first real opportunity to take my passion and apply it at a professional level. I was modeling 3D design presentations for sales and 2D construction plans for builds and permits for projects. After a couple of years and a falling out, I had the idea of ELEVATEDesign. I wanted to take my skill set and build a community of contractors who could bring my designs and visions to life. 

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It certainly wasn’t easy but you can never doubt yourself. You have to ask yourself if anybody, why not me? It requires 100% commitment and dedication to your vision and you have to be all-in on yourself. Rome wasn’t built in a day, as long as you’re getting better every day, you can’t fail. 

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about ELEVATEDesign?
ELEVATEDesign is how I identify myself and my work in the industry. I work as a designer and sales consultant for a pool contractor (Heintz Pool and Spa). I handle their sales, consultations, and project designs. I then take the designs that are catered to each client and find the contractor to do the portion of work they specialize in. Whether it’s a building contractor doing a pool house, pergola, or pavilion to a landscape contractor installing a detailed complimentary landscape or a contractor to come install a replica of your favorite putting green. 

For me, ELEVATEDesign is more than a landscape plan for your home. It’s about getting the most out of your property and connecting you to the existing landscape. It’s maximizing the potential of your home and property and how they mesh with your style, tastes, and way of life. 

How do you define success?
There are many forms of success. You could consider waking up every day with a form of purpose success. One may define success as hitting their numbers for their quarterly bonus. I would define success as making the most of any opportunity you’re given.
