Inspiring Conversations with Theresa Rubio of Grandma’s Cookies

Today we’d like to introduce you to Theresa Rubio

Hi Theresa, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Grandma Thompson started the cookie shop in 1976. She had a dress shop and would give the cookies away to the kids that came into the dress shop to keep them occupied. She realized that the parents were urging their kids to grab extra cookies so they could have one too. She didn’t mind and put out a little box to collect 25 cents so eveyone could enjoy the cookies. Once she was making more money selling cookies than dresses she decided to turn to the cookie business. She continued to make delicious cookies until she retired. I personally worked at the cookie shop when I was a little girl, starting at the age of 10 and took over the business in 2004. Today we are blessed to continuie the tradition that Grandma started almost 50 years ago.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Just like any business you’re always going to have your ups and downs. We have been lucky to have very minor struggles. I always say that when the whole world may be falling apart, that the cookie shop has always remained the most stable thing in my life.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Grandma’s Cookies?
We are a small family owned cookie shop on Historic Main Street in St. Charles, Missouri. Established in 1976. We specialize in making fresh baked cookies daily in many different flavors,. We also do cookie cakes and ship our cookies all over the world. We were recently named the #1 Cookie Shop in America by USA Today! The greatest thing about us is not only the cookies but our customers! We have the best customers in the world!!

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Opening up any business is a huge risk. Granted my grandma started the business in 1976 but she also faced a huge risk. People thought she was crazy to open up a business on Main Street all of those years ago. She took the leap of faith to do what she loved and It paid off for her. As I took over the business in 2004 the risk of continuing to keep the business at the high standards that grandma had was hard. I didn’t want to fail and I wanted to make grandma proud.

Pricing:
