Inspiring Conversations with Tish Jackson of Yummy Pescatarian

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tish Jackson.

Hi Tish, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My name is Tish Jackson living in Missouri by way of Northern California. I am the owner of Yummy Pescatarian LLC, a food-based company, creating amazing meals using fresh fruits and vegetables paired with seafood. I’ve been Pescatarian for almost four years now and I love it! I am an alumna of Lindenwood University located in St. Charles, Missouri. In June of 2018, I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communications degree with an Emphasis in Corporate Communication.

During my Capstone course at Lindenwood University, I was encouraged by my professor to start posting food tutorials on YouTube. Needless to say, I aced her class. My videos were so engaging and fun to watch. However, that was during the time I also tried my hand at being Vegan, which didn’t last very long. Therefore, I decided to just start posting food pictures and videos on Facebook as a newly Pescatarian. I posted meals I made at home. To my surprise, I got a lot of positive feedback. Eventually, I started an Instagram page that is now getting attention of others outside of my general area. That’s pretty exciting!

My YouTube page from college is still available. Easy Me Vegan! Check it out: https://youtube.com/channel/UCejF1Hhen8fpwOhdDuogWAw

Yummy Pescatarian was birthed from those events and prompted me to start a meal prepping business. However, the meal prepping service was short-lived due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. Instead, I launched my Seasoning and Sauce for nationwide shipping to give those that enjoyed my meals, as well as those that follow me on social media, a small glimpse of what goes down in my kitchen (amazing flavors that will boost your palate)!

I am so excited to bring products from my kitchen to yours! Yummy Pescatarian launched a seasoning blend and sauce earlier this year that is sure to make your food tastes so amazing!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The ride hasn’t been smooth but overall, I cannot complain. I designed my logo, labels and website solely on my own. Not to mention, the dedication put into finding the perfect vendors. Plenty of searches and countless of hours were spent searching for the best quality supplies and packaging. Luckily, A lot of my marketing and design was learned in college through various class assignments. I utilized several beginner online apps and programs. Overall, the end results are an excellent reflection of my commitment to my business.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Where the passion began: I grew up in a small town called San Pablo located in Northern California known as the “Bay Area”. Our front door was literally a few miles away from massive bodies of water, including the San Francisco Bay, flowing indirectly from the Pacific Ocean. The Bay is where my love for seafood began.

As a young child, I recall on Saturday mornings my brother and I would always be looking for things to do. This particular weekend we decided to grab a bucket and head down to the creek nearby to catch crawdads (crawfish). We sold them to my uncles for a few quarters or so, then ran to the corner store to buy snacks with the money they gave us. To this day I’m not sure if they really ate them or just entertained us. Either way, we really thought we were doing business!

Fresh red snapper, lobster, crab, and shrimp were regular meals on our table growing up. Mexican food and seafood were paired often. Fish tacos were my absolute favorite. Lorraine’s Fish and Poultry was a local restaurant we would frequent often. They had the most golden fried fish and crispy fries you’ll ever see. I still remember that crunch when biting into it. This was a real treat for us since most of our food was baked, steamed, or pan-seared. Oh the memories…

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
As a young girl, I was somewhat a loner. I had a very small group of friends from childhood. My aura might have seemed very inviting but I only allowed a few in my space. I had an imagination out of this world. My goals were to travel the world to explore different cultures and diverse people. When I love, I love hard and would give those I love the shirt off my back. I always felt that I could accomplish anything I set my mind to. That much hasn’t changed.

This food looks divine. It makes me want to purchase everything that I see. Much continued success. I would like some cooking lessons. May God continue to bless you and whatever you put your hands to.
