Joshua Shockley & Bailey Dowell on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Joshua Shockley & Bailey Dowell. Check out our conversation below.

Joshua & Bailey, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
It’s pretty funny, but a lot of people think we marry their pets. Yes, actually provide a wedding service to bind two animals together. Unfortunately, we’re only the pet’s plus-one to THEIR wedding. But hey if the need is there maybe we’ll start marrying pets too!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi! We’re Bailey & Joshua! We live in Downtown St. Louis (from The Lou, and we’re proud!) and are so excited to bring FairyTail Pet Care’s wedding services and pet rescue mission to the St. Louis area!

The Basics:

Cat Parents to 6 (indoor) City Cats | Rat Parents to 3 sweet boys (rats are just tiny dogs) | Fish Parents to 2 ponds & 6 Tanks | Fun Aunt & Uncle to many friends/family cats & puppies | Walk Shelter Pups often for more puppy time 🙂

Our Business:

We’re Your dog’s plus-one!®
We believe your wedding day should be your pet’s best day ever, too!

*Additional services available*

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Actually, who we are now is what we always inspired to be. Helping animals and happy couples is the most rewarding service there is.

We’ve both left behind more traditional career paths to pursue passion driven lifestyles- in beauty, local property investments, and now… pets! After years of Business Administration, Bailey decided to follow her love of beauty by becoming a Bridal Hair Specialist in the St. Louis Area, working with over 250 bridal parties thus far. And Joshua, being a Marine Veteran who grew up in St. Louis, follows his passion for serving the community through local property investments and events at our local pet shelters.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
Until opening FairyTail Pet Care I would say the fear of not fitting in. We started out on more traditional paths and we were afraid people wouldn’t understand wanting to step away from that and go all in on this business.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
Absolutely. We want future brides and grooms to see the real us. Their fur baby is in our hands and you can’t trust a stranger with that responsibility. This is why we offer free meet and greets before every wedding to ensure parents and pets see how much care we put into our job. Plus, animals can always tell when you’re lying!

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If immortality were real, what would you build?
We would literally build the biggest animal shelter ever. There’s so many animals in need, especially in Downtown St. Louis. We donate time and money, but long term solutions would be an unlimited space for the neglected fur babies.
