Lecia Hopkins on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Lecia Hopkins. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Lecia, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
I lose track of time and find myself again when I’m building experiences that uplift and empower others. With SHE Pretty, I get to create products that give people confidence and feel their best. As Program Director for Big Brothers Big Sisters ABC Today Program, I create programs and events that support students, encourage growth, and bring joy into their daily lives. Whether I’m making Pretty Butter or designing activities that make kids feel supported and inspired, I’m in my element when I’m blending creativity with purpose and that’s when time just disappears.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, my name is Alecia, and I’m the owner of SHE Pretty, a fragrance oil and handcrafted body care brand that’s all about helping people feel confident, beautiful, and unapologetically themselves. I create luxury-inspired fragrance oils and handcrafted products like Pretty Butter (my whipped shea butter), body wax, sugar scrubs, and African black soap, all made with care, quality, and a touch of elegance.
In addition to running SHE Pretty, I serve as the Program Director for ABC Today with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Missouri, where I design programs and events that support students academically, socially, and emotionally. My work in both spaces might seem different on the surface, but they share the same heart: I love creating experiences whether it’s a product, a program, or an event that make people feel good, seen, and valued.

Right now, I’m focused on growing SHE Pretty’s product line and expanding my reach so more people can experience what I like to call confidence in a bottle or a jar.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
For me, bonds between people are often broken when trust is lost, when there’s a lack of communication, or when empathy gets replaced with assumptions and judgment. Distance whether emotional or physical can slowly pull people apart if it isn’t addressed.
What restores those bonds is intentional effort: honest conversations, listening to understand rather than to respond, and small but consistent acts that show you care. Grace, forgiveness, and shared experiences go a long way. When people feel seen, heard, and valued again, connections have a way of finding their strength.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes, there was a time I almost gave up on SHE Pretty. Sales weren’t coming in as fast as I hoped, life was pulling me in a hundred different directions, and I started questioning if it was worth it.
What kept me going was remembering why I started. SHE Pretty isn’t just about selling fragrance oils or body care products it’s about creating something that makes people feel confident, cared for, and special. I thought about the customers who told me how my Pretty Butter helped their skin or how a scent made them feel beautiful again, and I realized I couldn’t just walk away from that.

Now, I’m slowly getting back into my brand with a fresh vision and renewed energy. I’m planning a big launch with new products, updated packaging, and an experience that takes SHE Pretty to the next level. This time, I’m ready to go all in.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would probably say that what really matters to me is seeing people feel valued, confident, and supported. They know I pour my heart into creating experiences whether through my work with ABC Today, where I’m helping students grow, or through SHE Pretty, where I’m making products that help people feel beautiful inside and out.
They’d also say relationships matter most to me family, friends, community and that I’m at my best when I’m building connections and making sure the people around me know they matter.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: If immortality were real, what would you build?
If immortality were real, I’d build a lasting legacy a space or community where creativity, confidence, and connection thrive across generations. Maybe a center that combines education, wellness, and self-expression, where people of all ages can come to learn, heal, and grow together.
Something that doesn’t just serve one moment, but keeps inspiring and uplifting people long after I’m gone a place that feels like home and fuels dreams, no matter the era.
