We’re looking forward to introducing you to Angela Clancy. Check out our conversation below.
Angela, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
My husband and I have recently restored a 1911 building and have opened a new businesses in the space. The building is directly across from our market and we would look at it everyday and dreamt of the possibilities ,for the last 10years. When it became available at auction we couldn’t help ourselves and we bought it!
Our dream became a 2 year adventure. The building never had utilities and was used for storage since the early 1970’s. We worked 2 years restoring her from tuck pointing, to adding the first bathroom and electricity. We even gave her a fresh coat of paint.
We opened Clancy’s Pour House in September this year. It is a a small drinking establishment featuring wines and small plates we create at our marketplace.
It definitely took a lot of hard work & time, but now we smile every day when we look across the street at our beautiful building and another business we have created.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am an entrepreneur. I love creating and evolving. My husband, Matt and I have been working partners for over 35 years. We have opened closed sold and reopened businesses in that time. The one constant is hospitality. We love people we love working and we love Challenges. We even tried retiring, but that didn’t work. We now own an operate Clancy’s Marketplace, & Bakery, and Clancy‘s Pour House, both in Rosebud Missouri. We couldn’t be happier or more excited for the future.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
I would say the relationship with my husband, Matt we will be married 45 years next June. He is my best friend, and we have walked side-by-side every one of those years. He has always encouraged me to follow my dreams and to stay true to myself. He has never said no and has helped me to achieve more things than I ever thought possible. I can always count on him to be my support system my counselor, my banker & my friend. We were 20 when we got married so basically we’ve grown up together sharing dreams and goals.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
I think suffering is a tool that you can use for success. I have learned that through suffering you become stronger. In my experience during those times, I spent a lot of time reading, reflecting and examining my life. Looking at things I should’ve done things I shouldn’t have done. Taking what I learned and using it to improve myself. You can’t just expect success. Success is a long and winding path Ups down sideways. You never know what’s coming. But if you use those times of suffering to improve yourself when you look back they actually were gifts
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes, the public version of myself is who I am. I have a hard time being different or putting up a fake persona. I love meeting new people and that’s why I think I love being in business so much. It’s the people who come in your store and talk . I think it’s really lost art. Communication is so lacking in the world today. Looking someone in the face and talking to them about your goods which you’ve created what you have to offer and seeing their reaction. Sharing memories and stories with people make you realize we’re all not that different. We’ve met so many friends and created so many special memories in our stores that its really irreplaceable and can never be duplicated.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
I wouldn’t stop doing anything. We don’t know if we’ll have tomorrow or the rest of today for that matter. I love what I do and I always say I wish I was 30 because I have so many ideas and so much I wanna do. So every day I wake up, excited to start the day excited to see what’s gonna happen what I can create who I’ll meet and what good can I do. Life is a precious gift and if you aren’t doing what you love start doing it.
