Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Angela Merridith of St. Louis County

Angela Merridith shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Angela, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
In addition to creating my greeting cards, I have been extremely busy with my Ebonee Angel. My daughter, who is the logo of the business. I am beyond proud of her many accomplishments at such a young age. She was the inspiration for me starting the company and she has made us very proud. She has recently obtained her Missouri Real Estate license, that’s a great feat for someone who works two jobs and is also in college. I am beyond proud.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am entrepreneur, wife and mother. I started this business in 2013. I am the owner, author and designer of Ebonee Angel greeting cards. What makes my brand stand out is that it is unapologetically black. My cards are very relatable to our love and life experiences. No cookie cutter text, our cards are heartfelt and memorable.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As a child I had low self esteem, I didn’t feel beautiful, and often times felt out of place. I had no idea of who I truly was or the gifts I possessed. Now I know better and I give thanks.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
There was several times that I wanted to throw in the towel and give up. Sales weren’t going as I wanted them to, business wasn’t picking up as fast as I wanted to, and there were just some days where I doubted myself.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
They would say that my children and grandchildren matter to me the most.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If immortality were real, what would you build?
I would build a shelter for battered women and children, a healthy foods grocery chain, buy land to build a family compound, and build centers for people who are battling addiction.
