Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Brenton Dearing CFP® of Lake Saint Louis

We recently had the chance to connect with Brenton Dearing CFP® and have shared our conversation below.

Good morning Brenton, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
A client came to me 23 months ago & asked for me to introduce them to others in my network because he was not from the St. Louis area. After due diligence on the medical technology that he was representing, I introduced him to over 50 people who have helped him to get a total of 1,566 people who have become customers/raving fans. The stories I keep hearing of people experiencing significant health breakthroughs has been very joyful!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
As a Spirit Inspired Wealth Manager, I’m not actively prospecting for new business. I did a Divine Partnership with my Creator in 2007 so I gave up calling the business mine. My Creator is the Senior Partner in charge of marketing, getting new clients, giving vision for the business & blessing the business. I’m the Junior Partner in charge of Client Service, Strategizing with Clients, Listening to what the Senior Partner says to do & working to be faithful to do it. I only work with the people who seek me out & I don’t attempt to convince them to work with me either. I simply work to understand what people are doing financially currently, what they are seeking to do financially in the future, then show them ways to maximize what is possible towards their dreams. This has been the best year in 32 years of business.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
I had wanted to get in the financial industry coming out of college, yet was fearful of building a business since there were no salaries available in the profession in the late 80’s. I started with a manufacturing company that gave me a salary & company car, yet I hated the work. When my dad died unexpectedly a few years later at age 52, I found out my parents had no retirement funds, no life insurance, no savings & my mom ended up selling the house to keep from losing it. I thought someone could have helped them to prevent this & I started in the financial business 11 months later to help others not experience what happened to my parents. Soon, I realized by helping others reach their dreams they would not experience the financial trouble like my parents.

What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
My parents were on birth control when I was conceived & I was bullied in grade school. I was made fun of a lot growing up. For decades, I felt unwanted, unworthy to be alive & a lack of self esteem. In my 40’s I took a class called Ancient Paths that helped me see the lies I was believing about myself & showed me how to start believing the truth of who I was created to be. I continued to invest in myself by attending various other programs. It has been a process of healing the last 17 years, yet it has given me a platform to help others from a unique perspective.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends and clients know my faith is my strongest area of life. I have invested thousands of hours of dialogue with my Creator over the last 25 years and built such a friendship through our relationship that it guides every area of my life: Spiritually, Physically, Relationally, Emotionally, Intellectually, Influentially & Financially. People regularly seek me out to talk because they have experienced how I am quick to listen and slow to speak. I attempt to understand them and what they are going through, which gives them the space to find clarity.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I am definitely doing what I was born to do. I’m more enthusiastic about helping people financially & as well as the other areas of their life than I was 32 years ago when I started in the financial business. The more knowledge & hopefully wisdom that I’ve gained over the decades can be passed on to others to maximize their situation. I’m expecting to serve clients over the next 15-20 years because I believe it would be a waste to bury my talents as I’m still so young to stop working. I heard when you love what you do, you never work a day in your life and that pretty much sums up where I am in life.
