Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Christian Palacios of STL

Christian Palacios shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Christian, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: Who are you learning from right now?
I’m always learning from anyone and everyone. I follow a lot of people who inspire me online and try to read books by some of those same people when I have the free time. Like Neil deGrasse Tyson.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Christian Palacios, I am the drummer for Brave New World, a St. Louis local alternative rock/metal band. I have been drumming for about 14-15 years now, getting my start in jazz band and then stemming from there. I am mostly self taught with the exception of some jazz teachings and being a percussionist throughout middle and high school.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
That would be winning our first place at the Valhalla music festival, and just seeing my fellow band mates explode with joy and happiness.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Practice more and be kinder to yourself, everything winds up ok in the end.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I am forever going to be a drummer and music lover/performer, and I am forever devoted to learning more techniques and other stuff to grow and develop.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What will you regret not doing?
Not practicing as often or as hard as i should/could.
