Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Dominique Ayers of Webster groves

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Dominique Ayers. Check out our conversation below.

Good morning Dominique, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
My greatest joy outside of work right now is creating a home that reflects who I am — decorating, and spending time with my dog. It’s such a powerful reminder of the balance I’ve built through my career. I owe so much of that to my incredible clients whose trust and loyalty have allowed me to grow both professionally and personally.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi! My name is Dominique Ayers, and I’m the owner of The Bladed Brow Studio & Academy in Webster Groves, Missouri. I’ve been in the permanent makeup industry for nearly six years, and my passion lies in helping others feel confident and empowered—whether that’s through providing services to clients or teaching the next generation of artists.

At The Bladed Brow Academy, I offer intimate, hands-on cosmetic tattooing training. What makes my academy unique is the small class size, personal mentorship, and lifetime support each student receives even after graduation. My goal is to make sure every student leaves with real confidence, skill, and a strong foundation to build a successful career.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As a child, I underestimated my own strength and ability to persevere. I didn’t realize how capable I was of navigating challenges or problem-solving under pressure. Over time, especially through building my business, I’ve learned that I’m far more resilient and resourceful than I ever gave myself credit for.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I could say one kind thing to my younger self, I’d thank her for never giving up — for pushing through every doubt and challenge, and for following her dreams even when the path wasn’t clear. Every bit of that persistence shaped who I am today.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
I think the industry often tells itself that we’re all in competition with each other, when in reality, there’s enough room for everyone to succeed. When artists collaborate, share knowledge, and support one another, the whole industry grows stronger.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I truly believe I’m doing what I was meant to do. I can’t imagine myself in any other career — it’s so fulfilling to help people feel confident and to teach others to build their own success in this industry. It’s more than a job to me; it’s my dream come to life.
