Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Grace Leon of St. Louis City

Grace Leon shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Grace, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
cinnamon swirl pumpkin sourdough loafs – I have been baking sourdough for years now but this fall I found the most amazing cinnamon swirl pumpkin sourdough loaf that makes my home smell amazing and is such a nice fall treat

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am a personal trainer, yoga teacher and holistic health coach, as someone who started fitness only focusing on the physical I had an awakening when my hormones and gut health declined and I had to start focusing on my mental and emotional wellbeing — I then transitioned my own health and my clients programs to a more holistic approach to wellness. My goal is to help other create a balanced lifestyle that works for them and their routines. There is not a one-size-fits-all approach to wellness, each individual is unique and requires a program that fits their needs and their goals

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
In 2023 I traveled to Bali, Indonesia for my 300 hour teacher training and did a 5 day silent retreat – these 5 days transformed how I see the world, I couldn’t talk or look at anyone for 5 days, it really forced me to be with myself 100% and observe how the world moves around me, I remember eating my food and really tasting, chewing and being with my food, i remember observing ants crawl around for hours, it really pulled me back into the present moment and taught me to be where my feet are, that is so important today when we live in such a face paced world, to take a moment and just be where you are

What’s something you changed your mind about after failing hard?
that just because you look good – doesnt mean you feel good. I did competitive body building shows for 3 years and my physcial body looked amazing – everyone was telling me how good I looked, but guess what, i felt like crap, my digestion was terrible, my hormones were wrecked and my nervous system was not calm. This is really when I knew that we are more than just our physical body, we have to learn to also take care of our emotional & mental wellbeing if we also want to feel good. Wellness is so much more than just being a certain weight or looking a certain way – you need to go inside and deal with what happening there

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
That more is better – there is always a new supplement, workout plan or diet to try and the media is going to try and convince you that you need it – when in reality – you don’t and most likely won’t be able to stick to it. Most of the best things you can do for your health are free or minimal cost – quality sleep, sunlight, whole foods, movement & good relationships. We complicate things by believing that we need another supplement or the newest workout gadget. I truly believe we actually just need to slow down and stop trying to add yet another thing to our regimen

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I am in nature and away from the hustle & bustle of city sounds – specifically hiking through the forrest and being in the jungle of Bali or somewhere tropical – I can feel my heartrate slow down and my mind at ease
