Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Guidebook of Affton

Guidebook shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Guidebook, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Woodworking,

Specifically a Big Giant fence, My Wife and I are building a Cedar fence so our dogs can run free like the maniacs that they are, we are absolutely beginners, but it has been really fun to learn how the hell to do this, between Youtube, library books, and sheer force of will we are making this thing happen, it’s also great to work side by side with her in music and on projects!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Guidebook is mostly just making music and imagery that I love, and reminding myself that there was a time when I was a simpler person, it’s also about carving out a pocket of happiness wherever you can, and being kind.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
So many people have said it better than me,

but being bound by the chains of stupid past decisions,

Somewhere along the line, we completely forget how to forgive ourselves, or cut ourselves ANY amount of slack, if i talked to someone, the way i talk to myself sometimes, i’d get hit square in the face.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
I think this is a pretty normal thing, but for me,

Fear of the Unknown, like “What if?”

What if i totally blow it in front of 1000’s of people, or what if i release this song, that i deeply care about to crickets, what if i say something stupid AGAIN and make myself look like a fool,

Well all of that has happened and i’m still here, it would be great not to constantly get “pre-scared”

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What do you believe is true but cannot prove?
Aliens exist. You know they do.

Although i have a theory,

they are all in the ocean,

you ever seen a Blanket Octopus? That’s an alien man.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. When do you feel most at peace?
In my studio,

When it’s early afternoon, my dog is laying on the floor next to me,

My wife is in the chair behind me telling me if something sucks or not, and suggesting cool ideas,

My voice is warmed up, i have an idea that i am buzzing over

and i still have the rest of the day to get creative
