We’re looking forward to introducing you to Laura-Lee Whitelaw. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Laura-Lee, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
What makes me lose track of time—and find myself again—is being with my horses. Especially Geronimo. He’s more than a horse… he’s my therapy, my soft place to land, my reminder that I’m part of something greater than the chaos of the everyday. No matter how long it’s been or how busy life gets, he greets me with that familiar knicker, and suddenly, everything else fades. The stress melts. My feet feel grounded. My heart feels full.
Geronimo doesn’t just lift my spirits—he restores them. He’s joy, comfort, and strength wrapped in muscle and mane. In a world that never slows down, he reminds me to breathe, to be, and to come back to myself.
If you’ve ever had a soul connection with an animal, you know exactly what I mean.
Maybe today’s the day to return to the thing—or the being—that brings you back home to your soul.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I started Legacy Real Estate Photography & Media after a season of deep personal transformation—a time when I chose to leave a 20-year corporate career to build a life aligned with purpose, creativity, and impact. Photography has always been my passion, but Legacy was born from something bigger: a desire to tell stories that matter, to help others feel seen, and to give back in meaningful ways. Legacy is my answer to the question, “What do I want to leave behind?” It’s not just about homes—it’s about heart. It’s about capturing moments, creating connection, and building something that reminds people they belong, they matter, and their dreams are worth showcasing.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who taught you the most about work?
The truth is… I’ve had many teachers. Some inspired me. Some challenged me. All taught me something. From my parents, to a long list of bosses, mentors, and even the ones I swore I’d never model—each left an imprint.
I’ve spent most of my life juggling 4 to 6 jobs at a time just to stay afloat. I’ve built businesses from the ground up—failing forward, learning fast, and growing through every season. One of the greatest truths I’ve learned? Every encounter—good or bad—is an invitation to grow.
The real trick is holding onto the lessons that resonate—and modeling what matters. That’s meant growing in ways that were often uncomfortable… but deeply necessary.
Today, I lead with a simple question: What would Gary do? What would Adam do? Not because they were the most “successful,” but because they led with integrity and character.
And I’ve come to realize: surrounding yourself with people who are like-minded—who truly have your best interest at heart—is one of the greatest leverage points you can have. It’s a compass. A mirror. A lifeline when the road gets hard.
My proudest achievement isn’t just building a business.
It’s becoming a human I’m proud of—
and walking alongside others who remind me who I am and who I’m becoming.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Wow. What a powerful question.
For me, the deepest growth—the kind that shifts your soul—didn’t come in the moments of success. It came through suffering.
When life is running smoothly, we tend to settle in. We assume it will always be that way, and we rarely stop to question the “how” or the “why.” But suffering has a way of shaking us awake. It forces us to pause, reflect, and wrestle with the deeper questions: Who am I? What do I really want? What am I holding onto that no longer serves me?
It was in the quiet, uncomfortable corners of pain and hardship that I found the most clarity—about what truly matters, who I want to be, and who I want to walk beside in this life. Suffering peeled back the layers. It demanded honesty. It required growth.
And growth, real growth, is rarely convenient. It meant getting uncomfortable, showing up differently, and doing the inner work no one else could do for me. But the reward? Alignment. Peace. A deep knowing of who I am becoming and why it matters.
I’ll never forget a sermon I heard years ago. The pastor said, “It’s easy to have faith when life is good. But true faith is tested in the storm.” That stuck with me. Because it’s in the storm we need faith the most—faith in ourselves, in something greater, and in the people around us to help carry us through.
Suffering stripped away the noise and gave me the gift of purpose.
Not the kind you wear like a title—
but the kind you live through how you show up.
For yourself. For others. Every single day.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
They don’t live next door or just down the street. In fact, we’re scattered across the map—but every week, we meet on Zoom.
We’re fellow entrepreneurs. A circle of dreamers, doers, and believers who hold each other accountable, walk each other through the hard stuff, and celebrate the wins—big and small. These are the people who truly see me.
They’d tell you that what matters most to me isn’t status or success—it’s how I show up.
Every single day.
They’d say I’m relentless in my pursuit of growth—not because I’m trying to prove something, but because I believe in becoming better for the people I love and the legacy I want to leave.
They’d tell you how deeply I care for my family and friends… how time with my dogs and horses isn’t just part of my day—it’s part of my healing. My grounding. My joy.
Because in the end, it’s not the titles or trophies that matter.
It’s the people who know your heart.
The ones who remind you who you are when life gets loud.
And the sacred spaces—like barns and backyards—where your soul gets to exhale and just be.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
The story has changed… dramatically.
There was a time when I wanted to be the badass in the corner office—powerful, untouchable, living the life of the rich and famous. I thought success would erase the pain I carried. That achievement would finally make me feel whole.
But life has a way of teaching us what truly matters.
My childhood was anything but easy. A father who didn’t want me and made sure I knew it. A mother numbed by prescription drugs. Abuse that came in every form. I carried the weight of it all—no self-worth, no voice, no belief that I had anything of value to offer this world. Being raped only confirmed the lies I already believed about myself.
For years, I was angry. I felt entitled to success—I deserved it because I had suffered. But life doesn’t reward pain with privilege. It offers something better: the chance to choose again.
To rebrand yourself.
To rewrite the story.
To rise from the ashes and become who you were always meant to be.
And that’s what I did.
Not overnight. Not easily. It took years of therapy, heartache, desperation—and the grace of people who loved me when I didn’t love myself. People who saw something in me I couldn’t yet see.
They didn’t give up on me, and eventually, I stopped giving up on myself.
Today, I’m not chasing a title. I’m chasing truth.
And I want the story people tell when I’m gone to be this:
That I was a beacon of hope.
That I helped others believe in themselves again.
That I reminded people that no matter how broken your past feels, you can grow, heal, and become someone you’re proud of.
That kindness, character, integrity, and love matter.
I want people to say I lived a life that encouraged others to rise.
That I showed up. Owned my mess. Made it meaningful.
That I was living proof it’s never too late to change your life, love yourself, and lead others home to who they truly are.
Because at the end of the day, we all want that.
We all want to matter.
Sometimes, we just need someone to cut through the noise and show us the way.
