Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Stephanie Hofmeister

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Stephanie Hofmeister. Check out our conversation below.

Stephanie, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
I used to select a focus word each year to guide my business and daily tasks. I recently rediscovered this practice, thanks to a client’s reminder. Although the year is ending, I’ve chosen a word that resonates with my current goals: “Slow.” It might not seem significant, but it encapsulates what I’m striving for. My life has always been rushed, constantly moving from one task to the next, never pausing to savor even a cup of coffee. This has led to stress and health issues. Slowing down is challenging, so I’m taking it one day at a time. Now, each morning, I spend 30 minutes outside, enjoying my coffee and watching the entertaining hummingbirds. It brings me immense joy, an experience I would have missed without consciously “slowing” down.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, my name is Stephanie Hofmeister, RN, LMT. As the former owner of Cloud 9 Massage, building that business from the ground up, even starting in bankruptcy, was a major achievement. After 10 years and two locations with 23 employees, I made the difficult decision to sell. While I sometimes question it, I know I made the right choice for myself, my employees, and the business.

Now, I’m “slowing” down and focusing on me. I started a new business named Hummingbird Massage and Wellness. I’m specializing in Post-Operative Manual Lymphatic Drainage, which combines my nursing background with massage therapy. I also continue to offer Ashiatsu and Thai Massage, as these modalities offer great healing benefits.

Hummingbird Massage and Wellness is unique because it offers a blend of medical expertise and therapeutic touch. My experience allows me to provide specialized care, particularly for those recovering from surgery. I am passionate about helping my clients achieve optimal well-being through personalized massage therapy.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
For a long time, I was weighed down by excessive guilt and a strong tendency to please others, which significantly hindered my ability to authentically express myself and live in alignment with my true values. I find myself reflecting on how, in the past, I placed an overwhelming amount of importance on how my choices and actions would impact those around me. I would often find myself second-guessing my own intuition and desires, all in the name of avoiding potential discomfort or disapproval from others. However, I have reached a turning point where I no longer resonate with that way of thinking and behaving. This constant state of self-sacrifice and people-pleasing has, paradoxically, led to a great deal of internal suffering and a sense of disconnect from my own needs and aspirations. I am now actively working on releasing these old patterns and embracing a more self-compassionate and authentic approach to life.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I could say one thing to my younger self, it would be: you are smart, you are beautiful, and you can accomplish anything. It’s important to remember that these qualities are within you, even when the world tries to tell you otherwise. Embrace your intelligence, cherish your unique beauty, and never underestimate the power you possess to achieve your dreams.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What’s a belief you used to hold tightly but now think was naive or wrong?
I used to believe that you had to work hard your whole life, even if you hate what you are doing. That belief is wrong. I followed my heart and left the nursing field to follow a passion that I knew would initially bring me more joy than money. I had a dream board and looked at it every day. My dreams have become reality, and that’s what matters. The realization that happiness and fulfillment can be prioritized over unwavering dedication to a career path, even if it means initial financial instability, has been incredibly liberating. This shift in perspective has allowed me to pursue a career that genuinely excites me and aligns with my values. And in the end gave me money and time with my family.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
I have actually asked myself this question many times. It’s this question that led me to the decision to sell my business. I worked too much and was stressed all the time. It caused my family to suffer and my health. Now, I am on a lighter path, prioritizing well-being and relationships. This shift allowed me to rediscover joy and find a better balance in life.
