Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Teresa Rose of Maplewood

We recently had the chance to connect with Teresa Rose and have shared our conversation below.

Teresa, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
Definitely gaining more high profile clientele. Working with celebrities outside of my shop is something I’ve done for a long time, but having them in my chair has been a crazy experience that absolutely terrified me at first.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m an award winning hair colorist. I have a background in film, art and science. I’m more than a hair stylist. I’m a hair artist. I unintentionally fell into the art of hair coloring. But it came about in a way of everything just kind of falling into place and putting me where I now feel I was always supposed to be.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I don’t feel as though the world told me who I had to be. But it has definitely helped me find myself. Before I was a hair artist, I was a PFX/SFX artist. I still hold that role and will never part with it.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
To appreciate the little things. Never take anything for granted but never be afraid to do without. All things pass. Good things, bad things. They are all temporary. We need the dark to appreciate the light. The bad times to appreciate the good.
So in short, I guess perseverance and appreciation.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
Oh yes. There is only one version of me. I am very transparent and what you see is what you get. I have never had the time, energy, or desire to try to fit in any box. I am who I am and I am proud of who I am.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What will you regret not doing?
Hopefully nothing. I’m ok with regretting chances I’ve taken, but I hope to never regret not doing something.
