Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Trent Lizana

We recently had the chance to connect with Trent Lizana and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Trent, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
One thing that brings me joy is going to an Art Exhibition or Fashion Shows, where they showcase artwork at the highest levels. It is truly inspiring.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Trenton Lizana — a top jewelry designer with The Diamond Family and founder of Mulatto Designs Jewelry.
With over 9 years in luxury retail and custom design, I specialize in crafting one-of-a-kind pieces that blend bold vision with timeless elegance. My work has adorned celebrities, athletes, and tastemakers, and I was recently honored with a nationwide feature in InStore Magazine for my contribution to modern jewelry design.

Mulatto Designs is more than a brand — it’s a statement. Born at the intersection of culture and craftsmanship, we create jewelry that tells stories, turns heads, and elevates personal style.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who taught you the most about work?
A mentor and close friend Nancy O. She took me under her wing from the moment we met at JCPenny behind the jewelry counter. She showed me how to speak to clients and understand what they are looking for, how to navigate the showroom, how to romanticize the jewelry being displayed, and how to really build relationships. Nancy saw my potential when everyone else overlooked it. She then left JCPenny and started working over at Samuels Jewelers and she brought me with her, elevating my jewelry expertise along the way. Thank you Nancy!

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
One thing I would say to my younger self would be, believe in your abilities and continue to produce art. Life is about consistency, not defined by your accomplishments, but by your impact on those around you.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
Cultural Legacy Through Craft.
At Mulatto Designs, I protect the value of representation and heritage — honoring diverse cultural roots through every custom piece. Each design carries intention, blending artistry with identity to celebrate stories that deserve to shine.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I’m doing what I was born to do, and that is to create meaningful art. Whether it’s a painting or a stunning custom, diamond and gold piece. Each work of Art is meaningful and touches peoples lives in different ways. It could be an anniversary gift to a loved one, an engagement ring to show someone how much you love them, or any special occasion for that artwork to become a symbol of that moment to them. Especially seeing their faces light up when I brought to life what they envisioned.
