Life & Work with Alejandro Contreras of STL

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alejandro Contreras.

Hi Alejandro, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Alejandro Contreras, and I’m originally from El Salvador. After waiting about 12 years for my green card process, I moved to the United States in 2019. Shortly after moving, I married my wife and began working at a Chick-fil-A restaurant here in the St. Louis area. That experience shaped me in a major way. I gained leadership experience, learned how to serve people well, and saw firsthand the impact that strong culture, branding, and customer experience can have on a business.

Since I had a background in marketing and a passion for creativity, I eventually launched my own creative agency, Vamos Media. What started with Chick-fil-A as one of my first major clients quickly grew into serving multiple Chick-fil-A locations throughout the St. Louis market, and eventually into markets like Chicago and South Florida as well. From there, we expanded into helping restaurants and small businesses create professional, engaging content that helps them grow online and ultimately grow their customer base. My heart has always been helping businesses tell their story in a way that feels authentic and impactful.

Alongside business, ministry has also been a huge part of my life. I currently serve at New Life St. Louis as the Creative & Production Director, where I oversee creative direction, social media, branding, live production, and communication across the church. In addition to that role, I also serve as the campus pastor of New Life Bilingüe, the bilingual campus of New Life St. Louis. Our bilingual campus focuses on reaching bilingual families and especially the Hispanic community in the St. Louis area with the message of Jesus in a way that feels welcoming and culturally connected.

A lot of my story has been about building from the ground up, staying consistent, and using creativity as a tool to serve both businesses and people. Whether it’s through marketing, production, photography, video, or ministry, my goal has always been to create things that genuinely connect with people and make an impact.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s definitely been far from a smooth road. There were moments when we had to pinch pennies, waiting for payments to come in or holding off on expenses. I’ve worked longer hours than I ever imagined, because as a business owner, you’re responsible for everything. Some days, it’s 18 hours to make sure we deliver for clients. It’s challenging, especially when you want balance with family. But through all of it, I’ve seen God provide in every circumstance, and that faithfulness keeps me going.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I currently serve in two major roles that I’m deeply passionate about. Professionally, I’m the founder of Vamos Media, a creative marketing agency based in the St. Louis area that helps businesses create high-quality content and build a stronger online presence. We specialize in social media marketing, video production, photography, branding, and digital content strategy, particularly for restaurants and local businesses. Over the years, we’ve had the opportunity to work with several Chick-fil-A locations across multiple markets, along with many other small businesses throughout St. Louis.

At the same time, I also serve at New Life St. Louis as the Creative & Production Director, where I oversee everything from live production and livestreaming to branding, social media, communication, and creative direction for the church. In addition, I pastor New Life Bilingüe, the bilingual campus of New Life St. Louis, which focuses on reaching bilingual and Hispanic families in our community.

I think what sets me apart is that I genuinely care about people and not just “content.” Whether I’m helping a business grow online or serving in ministry, my goal is always to create something meaningful that connects with people in a real way. I’ve also learned how to blend creativity with strategy. Anybody can post online, but I love helping businesses and organizations create content that actually serves a purpose and delivers results.

What I’m most proud of honestly isn’t a certain client or project, but being able to build something meaningful while staying grounded in my faith and family. Coming from El Salvador, starting over in a new country, and seeing how God has opened doors over the years is something I’ll never take for granted.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I think the creative and marketing industry is going to change dramatically over the next 5–10 years, especially with the rise of AI. Content creation is becoming faster and more accessible than ever before. Things that used to take entire teams can now sometimes be done by one person with the right tools. AI will continue changing editing, advertising, social media strategy, and even the way businesses interact with customers online.

At the same time though, I actually think authenticity is going to become even more valuable. As more businesses rely on AI-generated content, people are starting to crave real stories, real personalities, and genuine connection. Anybody can post content now, but not everybody can build trust or make people feel something. I think the businesses and creatives that will stand out are the ones that stay human and know how to truly connect with people.

I also think social media is continuing to shift into more than just entertainment. Platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube are becoming the new way people discover restaurants, businesses, products, and even churches. Because of that, businesses can’t afford to ignore their online presence anymore. Your content is often someone’s first impression of your business.

For me personally, I don’t see AI or these changes as something to fear. I see them as tools that can help us work smarter and create better experiences. But I still believe creativity, vision, leadership, and human connection are the things that will always separate great brands and creatives from everyone else.
