Life & Work with Alvin Hamilton of Saint Louis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alvin Hamilton

Hi Alvin, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Alvin’s journey began with an early passion for film and music, nurtured by his parents. His love for movies and music grew as he watched films with his dad and took piano lessons. Filming short movies with a simple camera gifted by his parents, he found joy in creating.

In high school, a trip to South Carolina introduced him to rapping, thanks to his cousin Faragama Vozzi, leading to their first song together. Around the same time, Alvin honed his editing skills on Vine, a platform that allowed him to explore creative expression.

He continued his creative journey at Loyola of New Orleans, where he connected with like-minded students, formed collectives, and got into recording music and making music videos. His big break came at 21, working on the video for Bktherula’s “IDKWTTY,” where he managed the preproduction, shot lists, and storyboarding.

By the time he graduated, Alvin had released his first EP, “Sinners,” featuring and produced by Maxi. Today, he is a Digital Content Specialist for NatureMed, while continuing to work on music videos and other creative projects.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Alvin’s journey has been tough, with challenges like people not paying for videos and others giving him the runaround. The industry can be a scary place, and he’s experienced that firsthand. Despite these struggles, he’s persevered, driven by his passion and the support of his parents. One significant challenge was moving back to St. Louis to take care of his mom, who is currently battling stage 3 breast cancer.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
