Life & Work with Ashley Quisumbing of University City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Quisumbing.

Ashley Quisumbing

Hi Ashley, I’m so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, how can you bring our readers up to speed on your story? How did you get to where you are today?
I am from a small town in Southern Illinois and moved to Saint Louis in 2016 after traveling the world for years. Back in high school, I was the founder and president of Wesclin’s first-ever Gourmet Club. I organized visits to the city for our members to meet STL chefs and hotel managers to try their food, learn about cooking, host events, and learn how the industry works. Before STL Foodies Instagram was even born, I snapped pictures of our delicious food and shared them with my loved ones. My ex-boyfriend originally started the account for me, and for the first couple of years of STL Foodies Instagram, I kept it a secret that I was the foodie behind the scenes. In 2018, I finally came clean that I was the Foodie behind the scenes and STL Foodies has grown into what it is today.

Would it have been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There’s been a few events where people didn’t believe I was STL Foodies. I also still work full-time, so sometimes, I miss out on great opportunities and have to balance my responsibilities and time.

Thanks for sharing that. You could tell us more about your work.
I’m known for portraying my love and expertise in delicious food by creating content that highlights some of the best small businesses, restaurants, and cafes in Saint Louis. I’m most proud of the trust and relationships I’ve built with chefs, small business owners, and Saint Louis. I like to approach STL Foodies content creation as more storytelling and collaboration with the people behind the magic of the delicious food I am highlighting.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Anything good in life is achieved by taking that leap of faith. Risk is exciting and a necessary part of pursuing your dreams. Every day, I take a risk by actively pursuing the vision of STL Foodies. Sharing my content with the world involves uncertainty, as you never know how it will be perceived.
