Today we’d like to introduce you to Deangelo Robinson.
Deangelo, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve always had a passion for the process and the inquiry and curiosity of how things worked so pursuing a career in (as well as growing in the knowledge) programming and engineering was the direction to go. I started programming in high school in computer class back in 1998 and continued to learn on my own and follow the trends of web development from hand coding to using content management system platforms like wordpress and wix but having a developer background is good to have. I’m currently working as a Mechanical Assembly Procedure Engineer but the long term goal was to build my own platform. Having a career is nice but I know have more than enough skills and experience to create/develop my own company.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The difficult part is keeping up with technology due to new softwares, web/app building platforms and programming languages are being created so fast and the rise of A.I. makes it more challenging becuase I have to compete with a computer that can do what I can do in less time and a fraction of the cost but A.I. isn’t pefect and it still has a way to go in my opinion.

I’m currently a Mechanical AP Design Engineer. I Analyze mechanical problems and produce innovative solutions using multiple fabrication and material methods, including injection molding, aluminum castings, machined parts, and sheet metal
Oversee product development from design to implementation, monitoring status of all assignments and reporting to senior managers on progress
Evaluate mechanical designs for potential flaws and offer modifications to eliminate them
Comply with all national and local regulations and maintain organizational values and standards
Responsibilities
Work on projects to sustain a product, involving replacement or redesign of obsolete components, product improvement features, cost reductions, manufacturing support, and field complaints
Prepare assembly or product layout and detailed drawings, and participate in building of prototype product or system
Provide tolerance analyses, apply GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing), conduct stress–strain analyses, develop reliability testing procedures, and generate design verification reports
Design methods for testing product capabilities and troubleshooting mechanical or structural flaws
Ensure that design testing, implementation, and maintenance processes are executed according to company quality standards
Participate in regularly scheduled department meetings to report on project status, prepare and give design presentations, and mentor junior engineers
I’m mostly proud of my position as a whole. The documents I modify and create are for the assembly for the entire production floor for the of the devices you see in laboratories and hospitals.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I like best about St.Louis is that you can always find a place you like and the improvements you see to areas that really needed to be cleaned up. The least thing are the vacant or boarded up buildings. The number of them are overwhelming.
