Life & Work with Gavin Colp of St Louis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gavin Colp.

Hi Gavin, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Loftys Comet started as a band between best friends who spent an exorbitant amount of time together. We’d rehearse in Chance’s, our guitarist’s, basement and spent a lot of time hanging out, finding out what we wanted the band to be. We uploaded a TikTok of us playing a snippet of our song “Shower Thoughts” and it ended up getting shared to multiple platforms, reaching about 6 Million views across all platforms. We’ve been recording eps/records since 2020, finishing our latest release, “The Fool” in 2026. We got here by keeping the train rolling.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Every road has its bumps along the way, much like every rose has its thorns. We’ve always done things “DIY”, meaning we made all the shirts, we made all the cds, we had all the art made, and we bought a van for transportation. Having to get everything off the ground can be pricey, but in the end its worth it. We’ve also had to get a new drummer. It took time for all of us to adjust, but Owen is a great addition to the Loftys stylings

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We play Instrumental Alternative jazz. We like to throw influence of Rock, Rnb, and pop into the mix. We specialize in creating a compelling performance that fuses each of our experiences together. Our music has alot of improvising making our shows different every time. Were proud of all the opportunities we’ve received and the music we’ve been able to create along the way.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
