Today we’d like to introduce you to Haley Missavage.
Hi Haley, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My path to entrepreneurship definitely wasn’t a straight line. I spent over 20 years working in sales for IT staffing companies, where I learned the importance of relationships, trust, and showing up for people. Flowers were always a passion of mine, but in 2019 I officially started Savvy Floral Design while still working full time — designing weddings and events on nights and weekends.
When the company I had worked for more than 12 years was sold, I found myself at a crossroads. Instead of starting over in another corporate role, I decided to take a leap of faith and finally follow the passion that had always been there. In 2022, I went all in on Savvy Floral Design and made it my full-time focus.
Since then, Savvy Floral Design has grown into a boutique floral and event design company offering custom florals, rentals, and tablescape styling for weddings and special occasions. I’ve had the privilege of designing over 125 weddings since going full time, and what I love most is the relationships I’ve built along the way. Many clients have become friends, and getting Christmas cards, baby announcements, and referrals from former couples reminds me every day why I chose this path. My only regret is not starting Savvy Floral Design 20 years sooner.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. Leaving a stable corporate career after more than 20 years was a big leap, especially stepping into a creative industry where no two days—or events—are ever the same. Learning to wear all the hats at once, from designer to business owner to problem-solver, was one of the biggest adjustments.
Weddings and events come with high expectations and a lot of pressure, and I’ve learned quickly that flexibility and calm problem-solving are just as important as creativity.
That said, every challenge has helped me grow—both personally and professionally. I’ve learned to trust my instincts, ask for help when needed, and stay grounded in why I started.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I own and operate Savvy Floral Design, a floral and event design company specializing in elegant weddings and special occasions. I create custom florals, but I also offer rentals and tablescape styling, which allows me to help clients design an entire look—not just the flowers. That includes everything from candleholders and vases to linens and décor pieces that bring a space together in a cohesive way.
I’m known for being highly personal and hands-on. I intentionally keep my business boutique so I can work closely with each client and really understand what matters most to them. My goal is always to create something beautiful while making the process feel calm, organized, and enjoyable.
What I’m most proud of is the relationships I’ve built. Since going full time in 2022, I’ve designed florals for over 125 weddings, and many of those clients have stayed in touch—sending Christmas cards, baby announcements, referrals, and kind reviews. That means more to me than any single event.
What truly sets me apart is the level of care I bring to every job. I go above and beyond for every client and treat each event as if it were my own. I believe people remember how an experience made them feel, and I strive to make every client feel supported, valued, and excited about their day.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I love most about our city is the incredible variety of venues and experiences it offers. St. Louis and the surrounding areas truly have it all—from historic spaces like the Missouri Athletic Club and the History Museum to country clubs, wineries, and scenic venues like Sunset Bluffs. You can find everything from intimate boutique hotels to larger venues like Old Monroe that can accommodate 350 guests. There truly is something for everyone, which makes designing events here so inspiring.
