Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah Richard.
Hi Hannah, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I got started as a makeup, body/face paint, and sfx artist in 2017. Since then, I have provided gore and beauty for many short films, a few runways, countless photo shoots, and 6 feature films. I’m honored to be part of the incredible film community of St. Louis.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I have struggled with a list of things over the years that have posed different challenges to my business. Since I started, I have been diagnosed with ADHD and anxiety. I have always struggled with gender identity and I was able to get top surgery last year thanks to so many kind artist in our community helping me fund it. When you are your business, it takes so much to keep it going on all levels. Since the pandemic, like so many other independent artists, I’ve had a hard time keeping consistent clients and income.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a makeup artist, body painter, face painter, and special effects makeup artist. I am most known for my sfx work on local films. I’m most proud of the work I did on the last 2 films, Down the Long River (recently premiered at Hysteria Fest) and My Blade is Your Salvation (currently in post-production). One thing that sets me apart is my kit. All my products are vegan and cruelty free. I have been vegan for about 10 years, so I make sure my kit reflects my values as well.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I see so much success and more community building in our future. St, Louis has a lot of hard working, talented artists here.
I do fear AI being utilized in the art space in any way. I haven’t seen a lot of it yet, but I hope we continue to respect the integrity of real human art and creation.
