Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Webb.
Hi Lisa, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’m the Owner and Creator of Addy’s Way, a jewelry and apparel boutique. Growing up in rural Missouri, I was blessed with the unique opportunity of being raised by entrepreneurs. While both of my parents owned small businesses, my mom and grandma co-owned a clothing boutique and custom apparel and sportswear business and that is where my love of fashion started.
Since I grew up in the store every day, rather than daycare, I was doing inventory and going to market before I started elementary school. Because of this exposure, I quickly realized that my future and career would include fashion and looked into schools that offered a program focused on that specific industry. I graduated with a Fashion in Business Degree and Associates Degree in Merchandising from Central Missouri State.
Following graduation, I started my career in a management program with an emphasis on buying for a department store in Kansas City. I loved my retail management job but after 2 years the company sold. In 1999 I was fortunate enough to start a 5 year career with Hallmark Cards, Inc.
Hallmark was a great company to work for and I learned so many skills that I now carry into my own business. During those five years that I was at Hallmark, I met and married my husband and because his job required us to relocate, it wasn’t long after my first child was born that I became a stay-at-home mom.
Although I loved my role as mom, I craved a creative outlet for myself and that’s how Addy’s Way was born. One small idea and a “I can totally make that” attitude pushed me forward and I started my own jewelry business in 2010 after relocating to Houston, TX.
This business continued through the years and two more moves growing and changing to stay up with the current trends. I have always loved jewelry and I enjoy researching new styles and putting my own spin on them.
In 2020, in the midst of the pandemic, I decided to go back to my roots and started AW Apparel, specializing in boutique style graphic tee’s as well as accessories. I now have more to offer to my customers through the Addy’s Way Brand and enjoy connecting the two specialties to create an entire look that helps women feeling good about the way they walk into their day.
All merchandise can be found online at www.addysway.com or in three STL locations; Blooming Daisy Marketplace in Cottleville, Jeans Jackets & Jewels in Chesterfield and Whistle Stop 301 in Old St. Peter’s.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’m not sure life ever has a truly smooth road, maybe a stretch of smooth, but not an entire road completely free of any obstacle or debris. I have been fortunate enough to not experience any truly debilitating setbacks on my journey, but have like many, faced some detours along the way. Being an entrepreneur means showing up when life is good and when it isn’t and I am proud to say that I have doing that for the past 11 years.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I work hard to keep Addy’s Way Unique. Addy’s Way Jewelry specializes in Leather Accessories. Currently, I offer leather earrings, cuffs and necklaces. I have plans to expand the leather accessories in 2022. AW Apparel specializes in screen printed apparel. I employ graphic artist to bring my ideas to fruition & create my own spin on popular trends in the apparel world. I offer boutique style apparel as well as do custom orders for local small businesses and sports teams. My finished basement houses all things AW. My studio space doubles as a work space and a shopping environment for my customers. Each week I have open studio hours where you can come and shop my entire apparel inventory or peruse through my extensive leather collection and design your own leather earrings or cuffs!
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Although I know that my skills in retail, marketing, and merchandising help me everyday in this business, it is my commitment to succeed that truly defines me and the overall success of my business. Regardless of what happens in life, I continue to get up, brush myself off and push forward and that is why I am where I am today.
