Today we’d like to introduce you to Maegan Hayward & Delphine Le Goff.
Hi Maegan & Delphine, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
We originally opened our business as a pop-up in November 2020. The goal at the time was to have a Holiday Market to help local makers, designers, artists, & vintage sellers have a place to sell their goods when there were no other holiday markets open and limited shops in the East Village for customers to buy holiday gifts. Things went well! So we decided to stay and keep the space. And for the last 2 and a half years, we have tried all different variations of markets in the space, along with live music & performances, art shows, and more. After a year of doing different themed markets, we decided to become more permanent and invited a core group of vendors we have worked with to participate in a year-long market that opened on March 15th. So, we are officially an open store rather than a pop-up! We have around 15 vendors (all women/queer-owned) selling locally designed clothing, vintage clothing, accessories, art, gifts & more.
We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Since we started, there have been growing pains. The state of the pandemic caused people to shop sometimes and not others and caused customers’ needs to change. But it’s been a wonderful experience, and everything we’ve gone through got us to the amazing place we are now. It’s been exciting to watch things change since we started.
Thanks for sharing that. So, you could tell us a bit more about your work.
Delphine Le Goff: I was born in France and have lived in NYC for 18 years. My career in NYC has been in visual merchandising, mostly luxury (Anthropologie, Saks, Bergdorf Goodman, etc.). I started to sketch during the lockdown/the pandemic. And that took my career as an artist in a new direction. I have since had a few solo shows and sold my art at Bergdorf Goodman, and of course, I have also been able to sell my art at my store,3rd & B’zaar, which has been amazing! I have always dreamed of having my own store, which would have never been possible without my business partner Maegan.
Maegan Hayward: Living and working in the East Village, I travel daily from my apartment on Ave B to EVVC and 3rd & B’zaar and love seeing all of the wonderful people in my community. The community I’m a part of feels like it grows stronger by the day, it’s pretty amazing! I am also on the East Village Independent Merchant’s Association board and volunteer run their Instagram @evimanyc I love letting residents & visitors know about all the unique small businesses in my neighborhood.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Truthfully, Covid 19 / the pandemic, as horrible as it was for the world, brought our community closer together and showed how strong we can be when faced with a horrible crisis.
