Life & Work with Margot Jett of St Louis, MO

Today we’d like to introduce you to Margot Jett

Hi Margot, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I do work in the corporate world in supply chain and have done so for 25 years starting in Australia, Iceland and the USA. But as the saying goes, life is a journey, as you grow, you develop new interests and passions and incorporate them into your life. I am a big believer in work/life balance, finding your purpose and loving what you do, for me that is being a Thermomix Independent Consultant and sharing Thermomix®, cooking real food, vegetable gardening, minimizing waste, eliminating processed foods and helping others do the same. We don’t follow a specific diet; I just try to be balanced in what we eat. I get excited about cooking something new, adapting, or creating a new recipe with my Thermomix®. While I would not call myself a creative person, I think Thermomix and GMarg’s Kitchen has been my version of creativity for myself. I believe food and cooking is a way to connect with people and show our love. I am really excited about the next 12 -24 months, I have so many ideas on where to take GMarg’s Kitchen and embrace wellness as a whole with other like-minded people in St Louis and leveraging healthy eating with Thermomix®.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I started my business as a Thermomix Independent Consultant in 2021, when they opened up in Missouri, so coming out of Covid and not being able to do cooking demos or classes in person was a challenge. Zoom is great and I still do cooking demos on zoom, but nothing beats in person where you can get hands on, smell and taste what we are cooking. I also think because Thermomix® is only sold via direct sales (you won’t find it in stores), people think there is going to be high pressure to purchase if they host a cooking demo, which couldn’t be further from the truth. I am not a pushy salesperson, I simply love being able to share the Thermomix® and show how it can help families and individuals. I truly believe it’s a gamechanger and everyone deserves a Thermomix® in their kitchen. However, everyone makes their own decision in their timeline. But what better way to learn about Thermomix® than to see it in person with a couple of friends, have fun cooking and of course tasting the food and drinks we make (yes it makes drinks too, from smoothies to coffee, the freshest margaritas you will ever have, or my recipe on Cookidoo®, Pineapple infused Gin&Tonic with sage, rosemary or chili). I love creating a relaxed environment in my cooking demos and simply sharing what I love. Being visible on social media has also been a learning curve for me. I am not a natural in front of the camera, or a food stylist, but honestly my goal is just to be me. You won’t find me in the perfect outfit, or all glammed up, what you will find is a real person, creating real meals in their kitchen using my Thermomix® and always talking about my grandies and hubby.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
As I mentioned, I do work in the corporate sector in supply chain, however my true passion is food and I am an Independent Thermomix Consultant, where I help and hopefully inspire people to eat healthier and cook smarter with the Thermomix® TM6® all in one kitchen appliance. Designed and manufactured in Germany, Thermomix® has been around over 50 years, but only came to the USA in 2016. I discovered Thermomix® in Australia in 2014 during one of my visits as my Aunt had purchased one. We actually bought one for my brother and sister-in-law in Australia as our youngest niece had a lot of food intolerances, so we knew Thermomix® was going to allow them to make a lot of dairy and nut free items for her, plus being a busy family, we knew it would be a huge help making meals. Around 2015, my Mom was diagnosed with Menier’s and had to eliminate salt/sodium from her diet. Whilst I have always had a love of cooking and am a foodie at heart, for me my Moms diagnosis really began my journey and passion for healthy eating and eliminating fast and processed foods. I did a lot of reading, educated myself on how to read labels, ingredients and how important it is to know and watch what goes into our body. It is honestly scary how much sodium, sugar and other additives go into the food that we eat. That’s truly why I love cooking from scratch and why I love helping others do the same. As soon as Thermomix® launched in the USA, I purchased my first Thermomix® and have been loving it ever since. I make everything from sauces, nut butters, condiments, spice mixes, bread, snacks, curries, pastas, stir-fry’s, protein bowls, risotto and even ice cream, just to name a few all using my Thermomix®. I love experimenting and trying new recipes from around the world. I have so many favorites, but when I found a recipe of Massaman Beef in Cookidoo®, one of my husband’s favorites, I had to try it and it instantly took us back to our favorite Thai restaurant in Australia. I love being able to cook simple food, but at the same time, gourmet meals when I want. We live in a busy world these days and not everyone has learnt how to cook or has the time and that’s where I truly love to help people. I am not saying everyone has to cook 7 days a week, but even substituting a few meals a week from take out to homemade does make a difference to your body and your wallet. I truly believe Thermomix® is a game changer in the kitchen and helps families and individuals eat healthier, saving both money and time in the kitchen with a bonus of eliminating many kitchen gadgets. Who doesn’t love a smart appliance with a screen that guides you through recipes and that can replace so many items in your kitchen since it has over 28 functions including chop, blend, whip, cook, knead, steam, grind, sous-vide and sauté just to name a few. Plus, with the integrated recipe and menu planning platform, Cookidoo® with over 80,0000 recipes from across the world, you can menu plan, create shopping lists, search recipes based on dietary requirements, or what’s in your fridge, you can even Instacart your shopping list right from your Cookidoo® account. I always say if you love to cook (like me) you will be inspired and challenged to make new things. Never would I thought, I would be making all types of bread, dumplings, deserts, or whipping up a lemon hollandaise sauce, as they were never my forte, but now I am making things, I never thought possible and am constantly inspired to try new things. But Thermomix® is for everyone, if you don’t know how to cook, never fear, with guided cooking, everyone can cook, as the Thermomix® TM6® will guide you through every step and weighs your ingredients. For busy families or individuals, if you have no time to cook, your Thermomix® will be your new best friend as once it starts a cooking process you get to step out of the kitchen and your trusty ‘sous chef’ will cook, stir and call you back when its ready. What’s not to love about that? If you have a baby in the house, homemade baby food is a breeze, I actually made a lot of my grandies baby food from purees to chunkier baby food as they got older all in my Thermomix®. If you have food intolerances or are following a special diet, Thermomix® is a game changer from milling your own rice or almonds into flour to celiac, vegan or gluten friendly recipes. At GMarg’s Kitchen my goal is to help people see how the Thermomix® can help them in the kitchen. Everyone has a different need and way of cooking, part of my role and passion is to understand their needs, see show how Thermomix® can help them in the kitchen and support them through the process. One of the reasons I love what I do, is that I really see the difference it makes and many of my customers have now become my friends and we share food (even family) photos, recipes and inspire each other to try new recipes. I truly believe I have found my passion and purpose. My husband Tom always knows when I get a text or photo related to Thermomix® and GMarg’s Kitchen because my face just lights up. He said recently, he thinks I am changing the world for the better, one kitchen at a time. He is my biggest supporter and loves our Thermomix® as much as I do. Nothing makes me happier than seeing my customers creations and seeing how Thermomix has changed their lives, eating and cooking habits. Of course, I love being there to support when the Thermomix® arrives and throughout their journey. As a Thermomix Independent Consultant, I love helping new customers set up their Thermomix® and cook with them for the first time and I am always available to answer any questions they have down the track. I even run virtual or in person cooking classes and my plan is certainly to do more of this in the future to ensure owners are getting the most out of their Thermomix®. Normally my classes are focused on a specific function or theme. Cooking around the world is one of my all-time faves where I make recipes from a different country. I love sharing what I love. Another passion of mine is vegetable gardening, I love growing some of my own food and incorporating homegrown produce into my cooking. You will often see me in the garden with my grandkids. and I love teaching them where food comes from. If you are wondering why the name GMarg’s Kitchen, my grandkids (9 of them), call me GMarg which is short for Grandma Margot. I love getting them involved in the garden and kitchen and they all love the Thermomix®. They love pressing the buttons on the screen, putting the ingredients in and seeing the food after each step, it’s an awesome way to get the kids involved from choosing recipes on the Cookidoo® app to having them help cook the food.

What were you like growing up?
I was born in Australia and spent most of my childhood and school years there. However, I have been fortunate in that I had the opportunity to live in other countries, including Papua New Guinea as a young child with my Dads job and then I was an exchange student to Germany for a year when I was 15. These two experiences, particularly Germany really influenced who I became, and my eyes were opened to what a big wide world was out there. Interestingly Germany, is where Thermomix® is from. After university, I lived/worked in Iceland for a few years. My career began in Supply chain and that is ultimately what led me to meeting my American husband, Tom and moving to St Louis in 2008 which is now home, although we travel back to Australia most years to see family/friends.
