Life & Work with Masha Slamovich

Today we’d like to introduce you to Masha Slamovich.

Hi Masha, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My road and journey have been quite unusual but very fruitful! I had my start training in the World of Unpredictable Wrestling in Brooklyn, NY under Johnny Rodz for the first year and a half of my career, training almost daily. Starting my first day on November 22nd, 2014 at the age of 16 I would train there until I would graduate high school & turn 18 at which point Japanese scouts had come by the school & it was agreed upon that I would travel to Japan to have my debut & have a 1.5 month long excursion. I would debut there on July 8 2016 for REINA Joshi Puroresu & work for places like World Woman’s Pro-Wrestling DIANA, and Pro Wrestling WAVE. I would then return to the United States where I would work around the NY/NJ/PA indies from the end of 2016-and the start of 2017.

After a hiatus due to injury, I would return in June of 2018 and go on to wrestle from there through the end of 2019 across the Eastern USA, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Russia, and all over Canada. During this time I took part in a tryout to return to Japan for Marvelous Pro Wrestling, and was selected to go overseas in 2020, where I would live for the entirety of the year & January of 2021, training in the dojo under the living legend Chigusa Nagayo, working for Marvelous as well as Sendai Girls, Heat Up!, Ice Ribbon, and Akira Hokuto’s ASSEMBLE.

On January 27th I returned to the United States & had my return match at GCW Fight Forever, and from there would go on to wrestle all across the USA during 2021 working in places like Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport, Beyond Wrestling, NWA, AEW, and most recently signing with IMPACT wrestling!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My road has never been smooth, but no good road is. All of the trials, tribulations, and sacrifices only made me stronger, built my iron will, and lit a fire under my ass to fight for what I love, and that is pro wrestling. Having traveled the ice roads of Canada driving over frozen lakes, across unmarked trails in the tundra, wrestled in the cross streets of neighborhoods without locker-room on the roof, being chased by angry mobs, living in a country where no one speaks my language, and the loneliness of living a gypsy life. There were times when I only had $100 to my name, and no way to get around, but I always believed, if there’s a will, there’s a way. And that has proven itself to be right all along.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a professional wrestler. For most of my career (aside from my time in Japan which was contracted) I was an independent wrestler from the young age of 16 to now (23).

I’m proud of the effort I put into being trained and constantly learning new things to make me a better wrestler. I love and respect our business and our craft and want to be able to bring the very best I can to it from myself. I’m proud of the journey I’ve had, the matches I’ve wrestled, the places I’ve seen and the people I met. I wouldn’t be where I am or who I am today had it not been for all of the experiences I’ve had. I’m proud that I never conformed to the way things are done or changed who I am, I did everything my way, and I’m better for it.

I’m known for my intensity and aggression which also set me apart from others. Every match with me is a violent encounter, and if you can’t hold your own I will eat you alive. My specialty skills within the ring would be suplexes, and strong strikes, and I’m generally known as a tough competitor which I take great pride in.

What makes you happy?
Pro Wrestling makes me happy. This is not just a job or a career for me. This is something I’ve wanted to do since I was 3 years old, and I worked my whole life to be where I’m at. From Martial Arts, and other sports as a kid, to competitive sports throughout my school years, and my early start to training, I gave all of my time and effort to this. I wouldn’t change a thing. I’ve met almost all of my friends in this business, I get to see places around the world people only dream of, I train with some of the best in the world, and every day at ‘work’ doesn’t feel like a job. It’s true what they say, when you do what you love, you’ll never work a day in your life. I feel like I live 2 separate lives at times, and my life within the wrestling world brings me great joy because little Masha as a kid is so proud to finally be where I’ve wanted to be all along.
