Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikki Brueggemann.

Hi Nikki, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have had problem/sensitive skin my whole life. I was approached by someone in 2008 about offering laser services in a day spa they were opening, that venture didn’t end up working out, but the more I researched the more excited I got about it; At the time there was nothing in my area offering any type of medical grade services so I ended up finding another partner and opening up our own place in 2009. We both worked as RN’s at the hospital and the beauty of 12 hour shifts is that we had the flexibility to each devote a couple of days a week to finding Skin Solutions for others. She ended up needing to exit, so I bought out her half in 2014 and cut my hours at the hospital more and more as we grew. I ended up quitting the hospital in December of 2019 completely.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Absolutely not! LOL, any entrepreneur that says it has been smooth sailing is lying. Coming from a critical care background, we never gave a second thought to cost, whatever the patient needed was done. So the financial/business aspect has been a big struggle and a huge learning curve. Also, managing people/employees has been a big learning curve. I still struggle with a lot of the ‘business’ aspects, but have learned a lot through the years.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We are truly a complete skin care facility. We offer home products, laser services (laser hair removal, veins, photofacials, ablative resurfacing), radiofrequency microneedling, injectables (neurotoxins/fillers), regular and AquaFirme facials, chemical peels, hair restoration, microdermabrasions, dermaplaning, etc. I am proud of being able to offer a global rejuvenation and not be limited but what services we have on hand. A lot of times people just need help with what to use at home. In this day and age of social media it can be very overwhelming to figure out what to use. One of my favorite things is to help people just get a handle on what to use on a daily basis to give their skin that healthy glow. With 16 years in the industry, I have seen a lot of fads come and go. I like to see how a product or service is performing for a while before we bring it on so I have 100% confidence that what I am offering is going to make a therapeutic difference. Seeing that post treatment smile in the mirror never gets old. As a society we are overstimulated and compared to everyone else. Restoring that self confidence is the best part of my day every day.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
EDUCATION. I can not stress enough. I am fortunate to be able to do a couple of conferences a year. Networking with others in the industry is priceless. I am also very fortunate to have a close group of colleagues here locally that I can use a resource and bounce ideas off of. It’s safe to say that we all struggle some with the business aspects since we are all RN’s, NP’s, etc. Things change in medicine constantly. We are always looking for better ways to do things and get better results. The way we did filler 16 years ago made everyone look really full around their mouth which became very unnatural and almost animalistic looking. We now approach with more of a panfacial rejuvenation which is a much more natural result.
