Today we’d like to introduce you to Sandra Plotek.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve started in 2014 back in my home country, Buenos Aires, Argentina. I’ve studied to become a professional cook and baker, where I was able to set up my own catering business. My husband Nick got news from his job, they offer him to be relocated here to STL, which he accepted and we moved here in 2016.
We’ve been living in Creve Coeur, Saint Charles, and we recently had our first baby boy and bought a house here in St. Peters.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It took me a long time to get used to the local ingredients and baking with electric ovens, but once that challenge was surpassed I was able to just get my bakery products the way I wanted.
Getting customers was also a challenge, I started with some of my acquittances, my husband’s coworkers and, I’ve always taken orders over Instagram and from my local Church (Twin Rivers, South County and St Peters).
I’m looking forward to opening up my own bakery/coffee shop here in the area soon, as well as to providing my services to other coffees and restaurants.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize myself in bakery products, cakes, pies, loaves, all kinds of bread from sour bread to butter bread, sugar cookies, Argentine Alfajores, Argentine Facturas (these are butter croissants and other traditional pastries from Argentina) with Quince, Custard and Dulce de Leche, some of my creations are done using the same traditional methods and ingredients used in my home country.
You can find my work in IG, there are not only sweet stuff and pastries but also savory, I do create the recipes myself and I do it for customers with sensitivities for certain foods, vegetarian, vegan, dairy-free, and gluten-free.
I’ve been catering to Twin Rivers St Peters, during 2018-2019 but had to stop in 2020 because of COVID and re-started again this 2021.
I’ve been also working as a cake decorator at Walmart’s Bakery in O’Fallon.
