Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Moore.
Hi Ashley , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am originally from Florida and moved to the St. Louis area in 2019. I have always been a painter and decided to sell some paintings at the the Arnold Farmers Market in 2022. I came up with Happy Sol, because when I am creating art, it makes my soul happy. Since that time my art and the business has evolved and I have been working with resin and dried flowers. Some of my unique creations include jewelry, sun catchers and Claw clips: all made with the influence of the natural beauty of real flowers. I have also worked on custom orders with bridal and memorial flowers. I have come to be a regular vendor at the Arnold Farmer’s market as well as some other pop-ups and craft fairs in the St. Louis area. I love sharing my passion and art with the kind people that I meet at these events. One of my favorite things about being a small business owner is being a role model to kids. I was a volleyball coach for 15 years so I love to share knowledge and encourage others to try something new. My father that passed in 2024 was a very talented artist and being able to create art and share it with the world is a way to remember him and honor this gift.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Trying something new is always intimidating and comes with its challenges. I have had success with my business but there are always hurdles along the way. What keeps me motivated is the joy that comes with doing something I love and encouraging others to take a chance on their dreams.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
During the day I work for a local manufacturing company. It is a small family business that has grown over the years. While my business, Happy Sol, is my passion, I still enjoy working with like minded individuals who started out small just like me.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I have met so many great people at local events. Other small business owners are your neighbors at markets and fairs, so if you have never tried one, grab a table and go do one! I guarantee you that you will learn so many things and meet lots of new people that will share ideas and their passion for their small business as well.
