Meet Dillon Sanders of Arch City Tutors

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dillon Sanders.

Dillon, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was born and raised in St. Louis and began my professional career in financial services after graduating from college. I joined Edward Jones through its Financial Advisor Career Development Program, where I passed the Series 7 and Series 66 examinations and worked directly with transitioning client portfolios. That experience sharpened my understanding of client trust, regulatory environments, and scalable service models — but it also clarified that my long-term interests were in business strategy and law.

I later attended law school in Dayton, Ohio, while working for my brother’s firm, D.H. Sanders Law. After graduating, I returned to St. Louis to practice law with my brother full-time. Our firm represents corporate and individual clients in business law, commercial and civil litigation, construction disputes, employment matters, and real estate transactions. My legal background has given me a disciplined approach to risk management, compliance, and operational structure — all of which have been foundational in building Arch City Tutors.

The concept for Arch City Tutors emerged during the COVID-19 pandemic. My wife, a fourth-grade teacher, was teaching remotely when several friends began asking whether she would tutor their children because virtual learning was not fully meeting their needs. At the same time, many certified teachers were seeking supplemental income but lacked a reliable way to connect with families.

The market inefficiency was clear: strong demand from parents for high-quality academic support and an underutilized supply of credentialed educators.

Arch City Tutors was built to solve that problem. We created a structured platform that connects families with Missouri-certified teachers for one-on-one tutoring. Our differentiation is quality control and safety. We verify each tutor is certified through the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and we also complete a comprehensive background screening on each tutor before permitting them to join the platform.

We are positioning Arch City Tutors not simply as a tutoring marketplace, but as a trusted education infrastructure partner for families seeking measurable academic outcomes.

I continue to practice law full-time while serving as Arch City Tutors’ CEO, overseeing strategic growth, compliance, and long-term expansion initiatives. My legal and financial background provides the operational discipline necessary to scale responsibly while maintaining high standards of educator quality and family trust.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Arch City Tutors has certainly required persistence and adaptability. After months of planning, the company was officially formed in May 2023. From the outset, our objective was twofold: provide high-quality, certified teachers in a safe environment and build a platform that is intuitive and seamless for both families and tutors.

We spent more than a year developing our initial website and were nearing completion when unforeseen health issues on the website development side required us to restart the build. While disappointing at the time, that reset ultimately proved valuable. It gave us the opportunity to refine the concept, strengthen the infrastructure, and approach the platform with greater clarity and precision. The result was a more thoughtful, scalable system.

Once the second version became functional, we hired a Director of Engagement to oversee day-to-day operations and help prepare for launch. Before going live, we conducted extensive internal testing to ensure the platform was secure, logical, and user-friendly. I personally created over 100 test student and tutor profiles, and our Director of Engagement did the same. We repeatedly tested workflows, identified friction points, refined the user experience, and implemented improvements. That iterative process continued until we were confident the platform performed exactly as intended.

By March 2025, we were ready to begin onboarding tutors. After building sufficient educator capacity, we opened enrollment to families in June 2025. While our launch timing meant we entered the market later in the summer tutoring cycle, it allowed us to prioritize operational readiness over speed. Since then, we have steadily expanded both our tutor network and our student base.

One area we recognized early as critical for growth was marketing. Rather than treating it as an afterthought, we made a deliberate decision to invest in strengthening that component of the business. We have since partnered with respected St. Louis-based marketing firms to help us refine our messaging, improve digital visibility, and build brand awareness in a strategic and sustainable way. Those partnerships have helped bridge the gap between a strong product and effective market positioning.

As we continue to grow, we remain focused on optimizing the user experience, expanding our educator network, and further strengthening our brand presence. We are also developing a mobile application to make access even more convenient for both families and tutors.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Arch City Tutors is a Missouri-based tutoring platform that connects families with Missouri-certified teachers for individualized, one-on-one academic support. We serve students across all grade levels and core subject areas, with a focus on foundational skills, grade-level mastery, enrichment, and targeted intervention.

What sets us apart is simple but meaningful: every tutor on our platform is a certified classroom teacher. We verify certification directly through the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and require comprehensive background screenings before any educator begins working with families. We are not a marketplace of freelancers — we are a curated network of vetted professionals who actively teach in Missouri schools and understand current curriculum standards, classroom expectations, and assessment benchmarks.

We specialize in personalized instruction that aligns with what students are actually being taught in school. Because many of our tutors are practicing teachers, they are familiar with Missouri learning standards, MAP testing expectations, and differentiated instruction strategies. That classroom experience allows them to quickly identify learning gaps and build structured, results-oriented plans for students.

We are particularly known for trust, quality, and safety. As parents ourselves, we built Arch City Tutors with the understanding that academic progress matters — but student safety and professionalism matter just as much. Our brand is grounded in accountability, transparency, and high standards.

Brand-wise, we are most proud of the credibility we’ve built. Families know that when they work with Arch City Tutors, they are working with qualified educators — not hobbyists or unverified contractors. We have intentionally positioned ourselves as a premium, education-focused service rather than a gig-based tutoring directory.

What we want readers to know is that Arch City Tutors exists to provide real academic support from real teachers. Whether a student needs remediation, confidence-building, enrichment, or structured accountability, we are committed to delivering high-quality instruction that produces measurable results while maintaining a safe and professional experience for families.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I’ve learned that I don’t have the answer to every question — and I also recognize that there are often multiple ways to accomplish the same objective. That perspective has been important for me professionally.

When it comes to finding a mentor or networking, what has worked best for me is staying humble and remaining open to advice, even when I don’t immediately see its value. Not every piece of guidance will feel applicable in the moment, but I’ve found that insight has a way of becoming relevant later. Because of that, I try to listen carefully, ask thoughtful questions, and express genuine appreciation for people who take the time to share their experience.

In terms of networking, consistency and authenticity matter more than volume. Building real relationships — not transactional exchanges — has been far more effective. I focus on staying in touch, providing value where I can, and showing gratitude.

My advice would be to remain open to learning, be willing to accept a helping hand, and approach mentorship with humility. Even if a particular lesson doesn’t resonate immediately, it may prove useful down the road.
