Hi Donna, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Founded in 1992 after a difficult season of racial tension in our region, the Center for Racial Harmony was born out of a simple, beautiful dream: to heal hearts and bring our community together. Through a great deal of hard work and perseverance, visionaries like Judge Milton Wharton, who gave us our name, and co-founder Paula Badger, who continues to serve as our long-standing board treasurer, helped turn that vision into reality starting with a humble public forum that brought 150 caring neighbors together to plant the seed. Today, as president alongside our vice president, Jerril Jones, I am so proud that our doors and arms remain wide open through everything we do, from lively meetings and dinners featuring local vendors to joyful gatherings and empowering student scholarships. There is always a seat at our table, and my team and I would be so deeply honored to have you join hands, hearts, and voices with us as we keep building a kinder tomorrow together.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Right now, our main challenge is an exciting one: we want to expand the circle. We have these amazing, proven programs like our Harmony Dinners and student gatherings, and our goal now is growth. We are focusing our energy on bringing fresh perspectives, new members, and younger generations into the fold. It takes deliberate effort to build those new bridges, but that growth is exactly what ensures our mission remains vibrant.As we look to expand this vital work, we invite community investors and partners to help resource these impactful programs and fuel our next chapter of growth.
