Hi, Geriel; please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hi, My name is Geriel Calvin, but everyone calls me Tink, just like Tinkerbell, and this is my story. I am the owner and operator of Family Time Hall & Creations. My husband and I started Family Time Hall & Creations 6 years ago. We are a family-owned business located in the heart of Spanish Lake, MO. FTH Creations creates beautiful, lasting memories with our intimate event spaces. We host various events daily: Baby showers, Birthday Parties, Corporate Events, Bridal Showers, Intimate Weddings, Holiday Parties, and Repass Services. Family Time Hall is more than an event space. It’s a place where families can love each other and create magic moments with each other. Watching people have a great time in our spaces is fantastic. It is great to see people as young as 1 year old and as old as 100 years old enjoying life and the family time they share. But there are sad times in this business because Saint Louis, Missouri, has a high death rate. So we often deal with many repass services to help our grieving community with fair rates, decoration setups, and catering services to make it easier on the family. As a little girl, I was inspired by my Aunt Laura Morgan, who, too, is an event planner and has decorated events all over the Saint Louis Area. She was one of the best in the game. She took her whole family around to help her husband. 2 children, 6 sisters, a twin brother, nieces, and nephews. This was truly a family thing. My aunt decorated the most beautiful Hollywood wedding for me and my husband. Just breathtaking. It was a million-dollar event. She seated 500 guests at our wedding. She is a Goat in my eyes. Then, Family Time Hall & Creations was born in 2017. Now, I am bringing my family around to help. I laugh because I prayed for this; prayers do come true.
My Grandma truly inspired our whole family with a creative and crafty side. Rest in Heaven, Granny Walma Reid and Charles Reid Sr. started our Family legacy. Our Grandparents were featured in several newspapers for Webster Groves for serving their community; my Granny did Meals on the Wheel and was a registered nurse, and Papa Retired from the postal service of Webster Groves. We attended church every Sunday together and went to our grandparents to eat every Sunday dinner. I have been moved to be the next leader in our family to keep the tradition of the meaning behind family and the time we share with all families. I am a woman of many talents and creativity. I am also part owner and a boxing coach for boys and girls at the Leon Calvin Boxing Gym. Family Time Hall & Creations decorates and stages the layouts for Boxing Fight Night Events for the Leon Calvin Boxing Gym 2 to 3 times a year with guest counts 2000 and more. Our Company also customizes themed boxing birthday parties for children and adults.
FTH Creations has a full-service customizing service like custom event decorations, custom clothing, custom shoes, and custom flyers. We make business advertisements, website designs, custom backdrops, and more. FTH Creations is more than a venue. Ask about DJ service, Decoration rentals, Catering Services, Bakery Services, you name it.
It wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I have faced many obstacles and challenges within my business. This is how I can help my future venue owners save time and money from my mistakes. I teach people how to successfully open and run event centers with the knowledge I have learned over the years; I believe in teaching others what I have learned and giving back.
