Hi Hillary, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Whether it was a casual Saturday spent by the pool or our annual Christmas Eve Open House, hospitality and entertaining has was the lifeblood of my family. Growing up with a mom who was (and continues to be) the hostess with the mostess emphasized the importance of making every big and little milestone an occasion worth celebrating. Acts of service have always been how she best “loves” on her people, and I quickly realized my career path was destined to align with the same sense of purpose. I have always been highly organized and the token planner of the group; hence why I felt I HAD to have a Palm Pilot by age 10. But truly, the journey to becoming a wedding and event planner happened extremely organically. Of course, I made some pit stops in my career journey, but ultimately, I always ended up making my way back to the creative, people-centered arena.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Anyone who tells you becoming a business owner in a highly-emotional field is bluffing. Wedding days are put on a pedestal and have become bigger and more elaborate than ever – which comes with hefty expectations! Every seasoned wedding planner has had struggles along the way, but generally speaking, this job is all about navigating obstacles and challenges with a solution-centered mindset. Embracing the motto “everything is figuroutable” has been centerfold to my business.
