Hi Jeff, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
On January 7, 2002, my life changed in an instant when I was involved in a severe car accident. I spent two and a half months in a coma and three and a half months total in the hospital recovering. Waking up from that experience left me with a traumatic brain injury, forcing me to start from scratch and relearn how to walk, talk, eat, and drink all over again. That experience handed me a stark reality, that tomorrow is never guaranteed, and our time here is truly limited.
That realization became the foundation for my Make Every Second Count philosophy.
Many people assume recovery is a process with a clear finish line, but over the last 24 years, I have learned that it is a lifelong journey. I am still actively dealing with the daily realities of a traumatic brain injury, and I am still in the continuous process of relearning how to walk, how to swallow, and how to navigate physical challenges every single day. I am nowhere near done, and that ongoing effort has shaped how my philosophy continuously evolves.
Make Every Second Count is not just about surviving a single tragedy, it is about how we intentionally choose to live through the ongoing process after. It is about how we show up every single day, how we handle long-term adversity, and how we choose to invest our time in what truly matters, including our relationships, our purpose, and our personal growth.
I turned that lived, daily experience into my life’s work. Today, as an international speaker and podcast host, I share this philosophy with audiences everywhere, helping people realize they do not need a life-altering event to change their mindset, because you can decide right now, in this exact second, to take ownership of your time.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has been far from a smooth road, because building a speaking business from the ground up requires constant resilience and grit.
The biggest hurdle has been the sheer persistence it takes to get in front of decision-makers and convince them to trust you with their students, teams, or organizations. Early on, you deal with endless cold outreach, unanswered calls, unreturned emails, and hearing no far more often than you hear yes. It is easy for anyone to preach a message, but earning the opportunity to step on a stage and actually deliver it takes relentless hustle.
Another challenge is staying the course when momentum feels slow. In the speaking industry, nobody hands you a platform, you have to build it yourself, one connection at a time. I choose not to waste time focusing on obstacles or limitations, because dwelling on what stands in your way does not move you forward. Instead, the focus has to remain on doing the work, sharpening the message, and continuing to show up every single day regardless of how tough the road gets.
Every door that closed simply forced me to refine my approach and double down on my commitment to the mission. The struggle of building this business has been the exact proving ground for the philosophy itself.

To me, risk taking is not about being reckless, it is about recognizing that playing it safe is often the dangerous choice. Most people view risk as the potential for failure, but I view the ultimate risk as staying comfortable, letting time pass, and never taking a chance on your potential.
The biggest risk I have taken was deciding to bet completely on myself by stepping into the public eye as a speaker and podcast host. Choosing to build a business around my own voice and story meant putting myself in a position where rejection, unreturned calls, and empty rooms were real possibilities. It meant walking away from a quiet, easy path to pursue something far more demanding, with no guarantees of success.
When you realize how limited our time truly is, your perspective on risk completely shifts. Taking a risk on your purpose, putting your message out there, and relentlessly pursuing your goals becomes much less scary than the thought of looking back and realizing you spent your life waiting for the right moment.
