Today we’d like to introduce you to Jen Schroer
Hi Jen, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
As a nurse of 25 years, a former athlete that was still very active and focused on my health and wellness, I was shocked when I hit my 40s and realized I didn’t truly understand what was happening inside my body. I suddenly found that my body wasn’t responding the way it used to, and the things that used to work, no longer did. I was frustrated and confused. At the same time, I was stuck in a job that drained me, dealing with chronic stress that I wasn’t managing well. I felt exhausted, unmotivated, and like I was just trying to survive the day. I knew something had to change, but I didn’t know where to start.
I started digging—into hormones, stress management, functional medicine, food as medicine and habit change. I learned how the female body changes with our cycle and as we age. What perimenopause was and that there were options to feel better. I realized that some of the things I had always done weren’t serving me anymore (even some of the healthy things). I knew I needed to shift my approach, not just physically but mentally, too. I had to let go of perfectionism, challenge my self-limiting beliefs, and start making meaningful changes to my daily life.
Little by little, I modified my habits—learning to listen to my body, and focusing on what was effective, for me, instead of striving for perfection and what the magazines and influencers were saying. I discovered a new norm as each small change had a ripple effect through every aspect of my well-being. At a time when so many experience a midlife crisis, I found midlife clarity. (Hence the name of my company)
I didn’t want other women to experience this without knowing that there was help and there were answers. I started talking with my friends and family and realized how prevalent the need for help was. So I decided to become certified as a Nurse Coach, this is a health and wellness coach that is certified by the ANHCC (American Holistic Nurses Credentialing Corporation), you have to be a nurse to take the course. And now, I am dedicated to helping women understand and listen to their bodies, engage in lifestyle modification and advocate for themselves and their needs.
My mission is to help women break out of the cycle of confusion and exhaustion, get clear on the life they truly want, and support them in creating a sustainable path to feeling their best.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Its been some trial and error, lots of learning and finding the right help.
Like so many women, I found myself dealing with symptoms I didn’t understand—exhaustion, brain fog, anxiety, heart palpitations, body composition changes—only to be told that everything was “normal” or that I just needed to manage stress better or exercise more. It was frustrating to feel dismissed when I knew something wasn’t right. I was bounced around from doctor to doctor.
So I started working on “all the things”: tweaking my diet, changing my workouts, taking supplements. As a perfectionist, I fell into the trap of thinking I had to do everything perfectly, which only led to feeling discouraged when life got in the way. As time went on, I realized I had to break up with that perfection, it was actually causing me more stress.
Beyond the physical challenges, there was a mental hurdle too. I had to confront my own self-limiting beliefs, the idea that I should be able to just push through, that prioritizing myself was selfish, or that I had to do it all alone. I had to reprogram all those things in my head that weren’t serving me anymore, that I had been hearing for so many years: exercise more, eat less….calories in/calories out…..don’t eat more than 12 almonds. It was hard to unwire those messages.
Through trial and error, listening to my body and a lot of research, I learned what my body needed, and that a rigid plan wasn’t the way to go, and trying to “fix” everything overnight was impossible. What worked was understanding what my body actually needs, making small but meaningful shifts, and giving myself grace in the process.
And starting a business in a stage in life where people think you are having a midlife crisis when you change anything, that has been a whole other challenge. Building something from the ground up—learning everything from marketing to running a business while also staying true to my passion—has been overwhelming at times. There were moments of doubt, wondering if I was too late to start over. But I knew the work I was doing mattered, and that kept me going. Self doubt it hard at any stage of life, but add that to being in perimenopause, when resiliency is low, anxiety high and energy feels unpredictable, and it’s a whole new level of challenge. But I lean into the habits I know will help manage those feelings and symptoms, give myself (and my body) the grace and self care I need and continue forward, not with perfection, but with persistence.
I learned to navigate the ups and downs, to trust myself , and to embrace midlife as an opportunity to redefine what’s possible….it’s never too late to invest in yourself, your health, or your dreams.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
My business is all about helping women navigate the often-overlooked transition of perimenopause and menopause with confidence, knowledge, and support. I specialize in personalized health and wellness coaching, focusing on sustainable habit change, stress management, sleep improvement, and overall well-being. I’m passionate about helping women feel heard, empowered, and equipped to navigate this phase of life with confidence
What sets me apart is my unique combination of nursing expertise and coaching—I don’t just offer advice, I help women turn information into action in a way that fits their real lives. Using evidence-based, root-cause strategies personalized to each clients needs. I believe that nurse coaching is the missing link in lasting health transformation. We all need help in this life, it takes a village, I would like to be part of that village.
Too many women go through this stage of life feeling unheard, dismissed, or overwhelmed by conflicting information. That’s why I created Clarity—to be the resource I wish I had. I provide individual coaching, group programs, and my signature MenoPrep program, which helps women understand what’s happening in their bodies, make empowered choices, and build habits that support them for the long haul.
What I’m most proud of, brand-wise, is that Clarity isn’t about pushing quick fixes, gimmicks or one-size-fits-all solutions, it’s about guiding women toward what actually works for them, in their life, based on their well life vision. It’s about shifting the conversation around menopause from something to be feared or endured to something to celebrate.
At the core of my brand is this belief: You don’t have to figure this out alone. Whether you’re struggling with fatigue, brain fog, weight changes, anxiety, or just feeling lost in the process, there is a way forward—and I’m here to help you find it.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
The Covid-19 crisis reinforced for me that we all have the right to approach our health in a way that aligns with our beliefs, values, and comfort level. The pandemic highlighted just how personal health decisions are, and it also showed how important education and informed healthcare are in that process.
I believe that when we have the right information, we can make choices that support our well-being while also respecting the choices of others. No one should feel judged for how they take care of themselves, and no one should feel pressured to follow a path that doesn’t align with their needs. Instead of blame or division, I think we should focus on understanding, respect, and supporting one another—because at the end of the day, we’re all trying to do what’s best for ourselves and our families.
