Meet Jennifer McGuire of Belleville, IL

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer McGuire

Hi Jennifer, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I began my small business due to having to stop my career in education to stay home and be a caregiver for my husband. He suffered from extreme chronic pain and needed someone to do all the things necessary for daily living. His pain was beginning to take over his daily functioning and I was doing all the things he needed done to survive. In my quest to not lose myself and my happiness, I created my small design business.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No it has not been a smooth road. There have been technical issues, machine failures and negative customer feedback at times. This is to be expected and so I try to troubleshoot and persevere through the difficult times in order to keep my shop open.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am most known for my custom cruising duck and Jeep tags. My customers are mostly cruisers and Jeep owners looking for custom design for their tags. What I specialize in is custom design. If a customer has an idea for what they are looking for, I am able to design what they need and put it on paper, clothing, bags, earrings. I am able to sublimate onto polyester surfaces and I also have a DTF printer which prints onto a film which can be heat pressed onto many fabric choices. I also offer downloadable versions of my tags and other digital media.
What I am most proud of is my creative ability. My grandfather was a graphic artist as well as an impressionist nature artist. I am sure I have my talents based on time spent with him when I was a young girl.
The thing that sets me apart from others is that I am able to create something memorable and tangible simply from an idea in the customer’s imagination and I truly care that my design will fulfill the purpose the customer had in mind.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My late husband was a source of great support both financially and emotionally. He would cheerlead when I felt defeated and he would offer his ideas to assist in logistics as well as for offerings in the shop. When he found that I was limited in processing an order due to the limitations of my machinery, he would purchase the item needed to complete the order as requested by the customer. For example, I was unable to sublimate a design onto black cotton fabrics and he purchased the DTF printer for me to expand my process to include more fabric choices for my customers. He also counted rubber bands for me (these come with the tags) and that made it possible for me to fulfill more orders with this assistance.
