Meet Jessica Ly-Cauley and Jenny Sin of SCNT Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Ly-Cauley and Jenny Sin.

Hi Jessica and Jenny, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
The idea started over a casual brunch where we discussed our current lives and what we wanted for our future. We realized that we couldn’t help but feel like we both fall into a repetitive cycle – work, eat, sleep, repeat. We thought, why not start a venture with which we are both passionate and can have unlimited creativity? One thing we loved was the candles. The scents, the container designs, and the warm-feeling candles made it perfect for us. We love the endless possibilities with sculptural candles, how there is one for every season, every holiday, every home, and for everyone. We figured, let’s take it up a notch, and that’s where the idea of SCNT Studio came to life. While we initially started with an online store, we started participating in local pop-ups around St. Louis, working alongside other small businesses and meeting the community, which we enjoy so much.

We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not at all. We knew there would be many bumps, especially with starting any new business, and candle making take work. There is a lot of trial and error, such as waxes that work best for sculptural candles, what percentage and temperature to pour, what type of cotton wick and how to package for shipping, etc. We are still learning and trying to find ways to improve our business, but we are so grateful that we have a process that works for us currently, as it was challenging to get here.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
SCNT Studio is a women-owned small business in St. Louis, MO, specializing in sculptural and decorative candles. What sets us apart is that we use 100% soy wax candles and all cotton wicks for a clean burn. We have designs for everyone, different shapes, and sizes, with many more to come! We are very proud of our products as we tested many waxes, oils, molds, and wicks to get us the candles with the best results. We love to work with small businesses, whether pop-ups or charity events. We love giving back to the community that has helped us in our journey.

Before we go, can you talk to us about how people can work, collaborate, or support you?
Sharing our business, whether by word of mouth or liking/following/sharing our social media pages, means so much to us. We love collaborating with other small local businesses to uplift and support the community. One thing we love about St. Louis is how supportive our fellow small businesses have been, including us in events within the community and sharing our business; we owe much of our growth to them. We can be reached via DM on Instagram or email at inquiries@scntstl.com.
