Today we’d like to introduce you to Karli Auble
Hi Karli, I am so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, how can you bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Of course! After noticing a gap based on my experiences and hearing the voices of other strong women around me, I wanted to create a group to support women, which birthed Life & Labor. As I entered into motherhood, I didn’t realize the significant life shift it would have for me and my life from a mental, emotional, career, physical, you name it, and motherhood changed it. I struggled to accept the changes, but I found so much comfort in getting in rooms with other women, whether for playdates or coffee, and knowing I was not alone.
The main focus of Life & Labor was originally a support group for moms – but the more I heard other women’s stories, the more I felt compelled to expand the group to support all women. Women go through some incredibly challenging things which are not exclusive to motherhood. I heard women talk about difficulties with intimacy, self-care, finance, healing, and career – and there was a realization that this was not exclusive to motherhood. I had dear friends who so badly wanted to have the “mom” title but had struggled to conceive, friends who were going through the challenges of IVF while trying to balance work, friends who were adoptive moms, and frankly, friends who had no desires to be a mother – and all shared some feelings of loneliness in all of those experiences, the same feelings I heard many mothers echo. Listening to each story, I knew Life & Labor needed to be expanded to give all women an enormous hug and push them to be the best versions of themselves. At each meetup, we are gifted with the presence of a local women expert in their field who comes in and shares their knowledge with other women to help us all thrive through life & labor. We have been graced with therapists, life coaches, intuitive guides, and podcast hosts and have had incredibly healing sessions. Here is the list of remaining meetups for 2024:
- June: Dionne Motley, Faith Based Financial Coach
- August: Marilyn Eagen, Energy Medicine Practitioner
- October: Abby Malloy, RDN, LDN, Gut Health Dietician
- December: Katheryn Barton, M.Ed., LPC, Couples Therapist
You can RSVP for the in-person meetups at www.lifenlabor.com/meetup. Additionally, as I prepped for the delivery of my two boys, I became fascinated with hypnobirthing and the power of the mind-body connection. I devoured any content I could, practiced meditation and body movement, and had two beautiful non-medicated births (one induced, one not!). After benefiting from the training at birth and seeing the power of the training in the post-partum season, I got curious about how I could learn more and share this information with others. In 2023, I completed a comprehensive Royal College of Midwives (RCM) training through Sophie Fletcher, hypnotherapist and doula, and became a Mindful Mamma Certified Practitioner.
I’m looking forward to equipping soon-to-be parents with the powerful mindset tools to build resilience and confidence and empower them to birth their way. I will be at the Bumps & Babies (https://babies-and-bumps.com/st-louis/) event on June 2nd in St. Louis, where I will be discussing Pain Management and sharing resources with women preparing for pregnancy, birth, and life with a baby. I will give tickets to the Bumps & Babies event on my social media pages in late May (@lifenlabor).
Let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
While this idea had been in my head- I hesitated to start the group initially because I needed to figure out who would participate. Would speakers give their time? Can we hold this meeting? What I quickly learned was the beautiful, sacred way women jump into opportunities to help one another. The guest speakers have all been incredibly generous with their time, knowledge, and support of the women attending. We have had incredible hosts in @Golden Door and @Hello Juice & Smoothie who have worked with us to utilize their spaces. There have been meetups with lower attendance, and I’ve hesitated to refrain from using our guest speakers’ time effectively. Still, with each meetup, I have witnessed sincere connections made, and it has validated and even reinvigorated the need for this sacred space for women to connect, support, heal, and grow together.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might need to become more familiar with what you do, what can you tell them about what you do?
Day-to-day, I work for an aerospace company as an engineering manager in the defense space. I love the mission and field that I’m in, and I love working with others to solve challenging problems, but the highlights of my days are the moments I get to work with individuals to ensure their work is aligned with the career and life that they desire and need at the time. I am constantly working with different support and resource groups at work and helping ensure we create the culture and environment needed to enhance our employee’s experience and, ultimately, our company outcomes. I have an undergrad in Engineering Management and an M.S. in Systems Engineering, and in November, I will graduate with an M.A. in Positive Psychology. You can see a constant thread in my past that revolves around people, solving challenging problems, and approaching things from a scientific and artistic perspective. I was drawn to the Positive Psychology degree to help others build richer lives. I have always been a self-help junkie, so this degree was right up my alley. Positive Psychology is all about looking forward and taking action to ensure well-being going forward. I love incorporating this learning at work and community through Life & Labor. I am so proud of the challenges and successes that I’ve witnessed in my 10 years in the corporate world, and I’m proud of starting Life & Labor to support the incredible women around me. What sets my background apart from others is the combination of my data-driven background and my holistic approach. I have enjoyed bringing science and data from journals and studies into the holistic world to share how our mind, body, and spirit systems work together.
What changes do you expect to see in your work and the industry over the next five to ten years?
We’ve already seen a trend towards virtual connections – and Life & Labor has received a lot of input asking if the meetups can be virtual (especially the topic on sexual intimacy)! While I would have loved for these conversations to reach as many ears as possible, I also wanted to foster an environment where women can be fully present, vulnerable, and deeply connected. The magic of our gathering lies in the sacred space created when women come together to connect, support, and grow. I’m committed to maintaining an intimate atmosphere for our community to share openly and authentically. I will continue to keep our meetups in person, and a blog recap will now be coming out with any details or information for ladies to review afterward!
