Meet Katelynn Schoemehl

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katelynn Schoemehl.

Hi Katelynn, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always loved all things beauty. Even as a little girl, I was the go-to friend for styling looks, hair, and make up when my friends and I played dress up. I never imagined I would have the opportunity to pursue a career in aesthetics when I graduated from college with a degree in communications. However, after spending five years in pharmaceutical sales in NYC, I learned more about the aesthetic medical device industry and was fortunate enough to land a job with an Aesthetic start up company called Ulthera. Over the last decade, I’ve had the opportunity to work alongside several of New York City and Chicago’s top plastic surgeons and dermatologists gaining extensive experience in aesthetic injectables, skincare and minimally invasive treatments.

It wasn’t until I moved from NYC to STL with my husband James in 2015 that he started encouraging me to think about leveraging my experience to open my own medical spa. My vision was shaped with the goal of creating a space for women run by women that would offer a full menu of cutting-edge procedures while demystifying the world of aesthetic treatments. In November of 2017, my husband and I bought Metropolitan Cosmetic Laser Center. While continuing to work my full-time job in Aesthetic Device Sales, I started expanding the clinic into a full-service medical spa, renovating the space and rebranding into Metro Medspa. We now have seven full-time employees that we refer to as our girl gang and my vision has come to life and continues to take shape. We’ve grown out of our original three treatment room space and recently started a building out a new space twice the size that will include St. Louis’s first Botox bar! We’ll be fully moved and open by Mid-August 2021.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My husband and I have a blended family that includes five kids (three from his first marriage and two we have together), and we’ve both continued working our full-time sales jobs while growing Metro Medspa. That said, our most significant challenge has been balancing our personal lives/relationship, raising our kids, managing our careers all while attempting to make sound decisions to grow the business. When we first started Metro Medspa, we ran a very lean staff which required me to be at the spa a lot of evenings and weekends and required my husband to manage his full-time job as a sales executive in addition to everything happening at home with five children. To say this has been a challenge is an understatement, but my husband is my biggest cheerleader, my sounding board and my confidant. He always says that his job at Metro is to help remove every obstacle outside of the business, so I can find clarity and continue to execute my vision.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Metro Medspa Is A Modern Beauty Bar Putting A Fresh Face On Aesthetic Treatments. Our approach is centered around fostering self-love and the belief that beauty starts from within and continues with our menu of services. We provide a variety of convenient face and body treatments (Botox, Filler, Laser Treatments, Laser Hair Removal, Skin tightening, Body Contouring, Hair Restoration, Feminine Rejuvenation, etc.) for every age, gender and lifestyle. It doesn’t matter if you’re carting kids around, ruling the dance floor, commanding the boardroom, or anything in between, we want to play a role in empowering you to look and feel amazing! Our girl gang is known for providing non-invasive beauty treatments with exceptional outcomes. We focus on giving our clients an elevated experience, listening to their concerns and involving them in their aesthetic care plan. Most of our clients join one of our Metro-ships (memberships) to feel like part of our family and come back monthly or quarterly for treatments.

The experience is what sets us apart from other Medspas. We have over 200 five star google reviews and most of them mention a friendly greeting, comfortability with providers, no pressure or pushiness, and an excitement about returning for additional services.

I love this! Thank you so much for highlighting strong women who are making such a positive difference in our community. It’s so uplifting and inspiring to read about Katelynn and her team of bad a** female employees! I will be first in line at the new Botox bar and plan to send gift certificates to all of my friends this Christmas.
