Meet Katy Schierding of MVMNT Pilates + Strength

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katy Schierding.

Katy, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
After 21 years in education, I made the decision to step away from teaching and take a different path. Around that time, I discovered Pilates, and it truly changed everything for me. What started as a workout quickly became something much more. Over the past five years, I fell in love with the way Pilates connects the mind and body, building strength, control, and confidence in a way I hadn’t experienced before. It didn’t just change how I moved, it changed how I felt.

That experience inspired me to create something of my own. I wanted to bring what I love to my community and offer a space where others could feel the same transformation I did. That’s what led me to start MVMNT, a place where strength and movement come together and where people can show up, move with intention, and feel their best.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a smooth road so far, and I’m really grateful for how everything has come together. I’ve truly enjoyed the process of building something I’m passionate about, and I’m excited to continue growing MVMNT and sharing it with the community.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
MVMNT Pilates & Strength is a modern, boutique studio built around a simple philosophy: strength and movement are better when they’re trained together. We specialize in combining the precision and control of Pilates with progressive strength training to create a well-rounded, intentional approach to fitness. Rather than separating mobility and strength, we bring them together so our clients can move better, feel stronger, and build lasting results that translate into everyday life.

What sets us apart is our comprehensive offering under one roof. We have a dedicated reformer room, a Cadillac room, and a fully equipped strength training space, allowing clients to experience multiple modalities without needing to go anywhere else. Our classes are thoughtfully programmed, accessible to all levels, and rooted in proper form, alignment, and progression. We focus on real people, real bodies, and real goals, creating a space that feels elevated, supportive, and results-driven.

Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the intentionality behind MVMNT. From the programming to the environment, everything is designed to feel cohesive, welcoming, and purposeful. We’re not just offering workouts, we’re building a community centered around movement, wellness, and consistency. I want people to know that when they walk into MVMNT, they’re stepping into a space where they can grow stronger, move with confidence, and feel their best.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
My biggest advice is to start before you feel completely ready. You’ll never have everything perfectly figured out, and a lot of the growth comes from learning as you go. Trust your instincts, stay connected to your “why,” and don’t be afraid to make adjustments along the way.

I also wish I had known how important it is to surround yourself with the right people. Having a strong support system, whether that’s mentors, partners, or a great team, makes all the difference. Build something you truly believe in, stay consistent, and focus on creating an experience that people feel the moment they walk through your doors.
