Today we’d like to introduce you to Kerry James.
Hi Kerry, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, you could tell our readers some of your backstories.
I started my brand in 2014 at the age of 14. I attended an art middle & high school where I majored In art and wanted to bring my art to the fashion world. I’m located in Charlotte, North Carolina, today, where I am rebranding my brand as a young adult fashion designer at 23. My mom was my true inspiration for fashion, and how she wore a dress to the church where the color matched her nails to the purses was a true fashion statement and an icon. My dad was the artist he would draw my mom, and the way he painted was inspirational and full of emotions. I knew I wanted to be a fashion designer at a young age from how I would always draw women and design pieces on a sketch pad capturing the color and the emotions and how the garment and fabric speak, and how fierce it is to the eye. Kerry James is a luxury brand that’s been here since 2014 and slowly making its way back to the runway. When you wear Kerry James, it’s fierce and powerful. It gives you a moment to few good looks, comfortable and luxurious .in the year 2019, Kerry James lost his mother, which was the true inspiration behind his looks, and the luxurious and classy last collection was dedicated to his mother, which was the last collection his mother saw before her passing away. Kerry will soon start working with celebrities in the near future and is excited for the world to see how elegant a woman should feel in his clothing, so keep an eye open on the red carpets very soon. Kerry James is 23 years old and still giving looks we have not seen before. He is currently working on his new collection, where he will show high-luxury fashion and good-quality pieces.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The struggles I had with the brand were trying to rebrand it and taking breaks trying to get back into fashion, Wondering if others would still like his clothing &buy his clothing after taking a long break from fashion and sketching. But as I was working, I was always in my head saying I don’t belong here. I should be designing and sketching, and one day, I just put out my sewing machine and started sewing again and advertising my clothes, work, and sketches, and then it was relaunching again. I would like to say if god has a gift, use it, and that’s what I’m doing now.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m known for my extravagant luxury dresses with a nice strong shoulder pad, a long train in the back, puffer coats, and the nice pleated skirts and button-up shirts that will soon be released later this year in the fall. Still, I have always been different in my confidence and how I bring an art side to fashion, and I am not afraid to wear a garment that others would not dare touch or wear. I’m proud of myself for still keeping going when I wanted to give up and be normal and not show and share my talent.
Do you have any advice for those just starting?
Go for it is easier to do than be done; if you have a talent, advertise it, promote it, and support it. People are still watching your work even if you don’t get the most likes and views at the moment they come. Keep advertising your work and be yourself cause nobody can be you but only you, and say yes to the opportunities to communicate with people with the same interest or connections. It’s crazy how many people know people through just a tiny amount.
