Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Spears
Hi Melissa, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
A St. Charles native, I graduated from Francis Howell North in 2010. From there, I went to Lindenwood University where I studied Journalism with an emphasis in Broadcast and Print. I graduated in 2014. Shortly after graduating, I got an Associate Producer position at KSDK Channel 5 with Show Me St. Louis. For just about 8 years, Scheduling interviews with St. Louis icons like Jon Hamm, Karlie Kloss and Jenna Fischer, to covering monumental days in St. Louis history like the first St. Louis Blues Stanley cup win. I loved working behind the scenes on the producing and management side showcasing all the good that makes up St. Louis. In 2023, decided it was time for a career move and became the General Manager of Game Show Battle Rooms St. Louis in September 0f 2023. Game Show Battle Rooms is the #1 Game Show Experience in the Country and a first for St. Louis. It’s been such an honor to open this new concept in my hometown. Located in the District in Chesterfield, Game Show Battle Rooms has become a new addition to team building, date nights, friend night outs, birthdays and more. With 15 locations around the US and continuing to grow, Game Show Battle Rooms St. Louis has become a staple at the District in just the year it has been open.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it definitely hasn’t been easy. I think being a woman in business in general is tough. I also graduated undergrad and started working at a top #21 station out of college. Although it was entry level position, in TV, usually you’re starting in small markets. That added a lot of extra layers and pressure to prove myself. It was intimidating working alongside TV veterans and there were definitely comments by them that were made that were hurtful. Imposter syndrome is real.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?

-Have a Bachelors in Journalism with emphasis on Broadcast and Print along with a Masters of Business Administration with an emphasis in Marketing. As of March 2025, I’ll have officially finished my second masters – Master of Science in Communications Management at Syracuse University
-Built a successful business – Game Show Battle Rooms STL – here in just a little over a year
-Being a leader that makes other people want to lead and follow
What’s next?
I’d love to take on a Director role with my company and help other Game Show Battle Rooms locations grow as much as GSBR STL has. I’ll be finishing my masters in Communications Management from Syracuse University in March 2025. Additionally, my fiancé and I are getting married on November 22 of 2025.
