Meet Michael “DJ MikeLuv” Mason-Love of STL

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael “DJ MikeLuv” Mason-Love.

Hi Dj MikeLuv, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started djing while I was stationed at F.E. Warren AFB in Wyoming back in 2007. I always wanted to learn and I had nothing else to do, so I would drive to Colorado every weekend for lessons. From there, I moved around to different places with the military allowing me to work with a lot DJs and play genres of music that have different impacts in that region of the country. In 2018 I started djing and networking in St. Louis and eventually found a home with Spin Society DJ’s where I currently mix corporate, club, and wedding events.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
This path of djing for me has been pretty rough for me at times. Being active duty military, and a DJ meant I would get things going in an area only to have to move and start over again. It has been a bit frustrating at times but I’d also meet a lot of great people along the way.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Nowadays, I do a lot of private events. I enjoy the planning and the build up to these types of gigs. I still do clubs and bars, but for me I feel like the private weddings are a bit more rewarding for me, and the clients I do them for. The thing that makes me most proud of djing is the joy and fun I can bring to people just by playing music. In today’s world of DJ’s most of us are the same. The thing I think that helps me and somewhat makes me stand out is that, I put my personality I to everything I do. I like to have fun so anything in apart of means your going to laught and have a good time while listening to music.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
There are a lot of people who deserve credit for helping me along the way. My wife Nikki for understanding the late nights I have. My mom who’s always cheering for me. The guy who brought me in every weekend in Colorado and showed me how to dj, Danny Fost aka DJ Magic. He’s passed away a few years back but that was my foundation. DJ Silk and DJ Hotrod who have been mentors. My first radio family in Virginia, Tyrone Callahan, Rebecca Gaines, and Ashley Bell. Then the DJ’s who’ve helped me here, Dj Stew, Dj Scoob, DJ Franco, Dj Micro, and DJ Chris Brown.
