Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Miller.
Hi Michael, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I started working in kitchens at the age of fifteen. I’ve held every position from dishwasher, to prep cook, to line cook, and then onto roles in managment such as sous chef and executive chef. I’ve always found the most joy in the kitchen when I was allowed an outlet to express my own creativity. This desire for creative autonomy is what eventually lead to me to branch out and start my own operation. Kitchen Kulture (recently rebranded as field to fire) was created as a food service concept focusing primarily on creating chef-inspired, locally sourced and seasonal prepared and packaged meals.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There has been plenty of ups and downs along the way. If it were easy then everyone would be self employed. Starting a business has endless amounts of uncertainty and stress and requires substantial grit and determination. I certainly would not recommend it for the faint of heart. An uncertain and volatile market, supply chain issues, staffing, and drastic swings with financial inflow and outflow are just a few of the many challenges we faced and continue to deal with to this day.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We focus on connecting our customers and our local farmers by providing thoughtfully crafted and responsibly sourced meals. We are proud to be the culinary bridge between our local growers and the consumers in our region. This allows up to help promote the growth of a healthy and sustainable community of farmers and responsible diners.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Transparency and consistency by far are the most important values of field to fire. We want our customers to know without a doubt where their hard-earned money is going and where their food is sourced from. Furthermore, it is of the utmost importance to us that the quality and experience of consuming our products are the same every time. These two core principals are the foundation on which we have built out reputation.
