Hi Mk, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I secretly fell in love with art at a young age, teaching myself how to draw and constantly finding new ways to expand my creativity. As a visual learner, art became my language and a way to express myself when words fell short. I would spend countless hours creating, not realizing at the time that art had become a form of meditation and healing for me.
As I grew older, I learned that some of the most meaningful things are born in moments of uncertainty and stillness. One creative skill led to the discovery of another, and eventually the pencil no longer met the paper and the paintbrush found the canvas. What started as curiosity evolved into passion and purpose.
Painting awakened something within me and brought a rush of ideas that challenged me to grow beyond the limits I had placed on myself. Through art, I learned to believe in my abilities, embrace the process of growth, and continue moving forward even through difficult seasons.
Today, I create with the belief that true success is not measured by material things, but by the goals we pursue, the obstacles we overcome, and the person we become along the way. My journey has taught me to be the person I needed when I was younger, to be my own biggest supporter, and to encourage others to embrace their gifts without limits. The universe gives you a gift, and in return, you give your gifts back to the universe.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road, but every obstacle became part of my growth. As a self-taught artist, I had to learn through trial and error, patience, and persistence. There were moments of self-doubt and moments where I questioned my abilities and creative voice.
One of my biggest challenges was learning to move beyond the limits I placed on myself. For a long time, I was afraid to create on anything larger than an 11×13 canvas. Working bigger felt intimidating and overwhelming, but growth often lives on the other side of fear. Stepping beyond that comfort zone taught me to trust myself and my process.
I live by the phrase, “Do it scared.” If there’s something you’re afraid of doing, do it scared. Courage isn’t the absence of fear; it’s moving forward despite it. That mindset has pushed me to take risks, try new techniques, share my work, and continue growing as an artist and as a person.
Transitioning from drawing to painting required me to embrace uncertainty and create even when I couldn’t fully see the outcome yet. Balancing creativity with the responsibilities of everyday life has also required discipline and perseverance, but art has remained my constant source of reflection, healing, and renewal.
Looking back, I realize the obstacles were not roadblocks but stepping stones. Every challenge strengthened my resilience, expanded my confidence, and shaped me into the artist I am today.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a self-taught artist who specializes in acrylic painting and mixed media works that blend realism, emotion, and storytelling. My work often explores themes of transformation, resilience, spirituality, identity, and personal growth. I create pieces that invite people to feel something, reflect, and connect with their own experiences.
I am known for challenging myself creatively and refusing to stay in one lane. Whether I am working with bold colors, texture, resin, glitter, or experimenting with new techniques, I believe growth happens when we step outside of our comfort zones.
What I am most proud of is my journey as an artist. I taught myself how to create, trusted my vision, and continued to show up for my craft even when I doubted myself. Going from being afraid to paint on anything larger than an 11×13 canvas to creating larger, more ambitious works is something I carry with pride.
What sets me apart is the intention behind my work. I don’t just create art to decorate a space; I create art to tell stories, spark emotion, and remind people of their own strength and possibilities. I believe art is a gift meant to be shared, and I strive to leave a piece of myself in everything I create.
Under the name MKD Pintura, my mission is to create timeless pieces that inspire people to believe in themselves, embrace transformation, and honor the gifts they’ve been given.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
I believe every person who has commissioned a piece from me deserves recognition because each commission has challenged me to grow as an artist. My clients have trusted me with their visions, their stories, and their emotions, and that trust has pushed me to step outside of my comfort zone and create pieces I may not have created otherwise.
Every commission has been an opportunity to learn, experiment, and evolve. The support from my collectors and those who believe in my work has helped me build confidence as an artist and continue pursuing my vision. Their encouragement reminds me that art is more than just something I create. it is something that connects people, tells stories, and leaves an impact.
I am grateful for every person who has supported my journey, whether by purchasing a piece, sharing my work, or simply encouraging me to keep creating. They have all played a role in helping me grow MKD Pintura into what it is today.
