Today we’d like to introduce you to Zach Hunsinger.
Hi Zach, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My story begins with two passions that have always been intertwined: justice and care for people. Before I ever practiced law, I worked in social services and community development, and I had opportunities to serve internationally that shaped my perspective. Through work with the United Nations in southern Mexico, I interviewed refugee children and women, identifying signs of abuse and trauma. In Tanzania, I conducted field research on child domestic servitude. In South Africa, I joined the University of Pretoria’s Child Law Centre, participating in representation of high-risk youth and helping to prepare a brief on the concept of “triple jeopardy” for students—a brief that ultimately was accepted by South Africa’s Constitutional Court.
Those experiences taught me things you can’t learn in a classroom: how to listen deeply amid pain, how systems can both fail and protect, and how real change often requires bridging the gap between law, policy, and human dignity.
I went to law school (at Loyola University Chicago) while also earning a master’s in social work, because I wanted to blend legal skill with real human understanding. After graduation, I worked with underserved communities and nonprofit organizations, focusing on vulnerable populations who often lacked access to quality legal help.
Eventually, I founded Hunsinger Law Group, LLC to put all those lessons into practice. Our mission is to be more than a firm that litigates or drafts documents—we aim to be trusted advisors who guide clients with compassion, clarity, and strategic foresight. Today we serve clients in Chicago, the St. Louis region, Illinois, and Missouri, focusing on business law, family and divorce law, and estate planning.
In my role, I draw on both my legal training and my social work mindset. I believe you can’t separate the person from the case: people carry stories, fears, hopes. Whether it’s helping a small business owner negotiate contracts, guiding a family through divorce with dignity, or creating an estate plan that secures a legacy, I try to bring not just technical expertise, but empathy and trust to every client relationship.
From working abroad in complex environments to building a practice rooted in service, I see my journey as one consistent thread: using whatever tools I have—law, advocacy, organization, heart—to help others move forward, protect what matters, and find stability even amid uncertainty.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Not at all—but I’ve learned that the bumps in the road are where the most growth happens.
Starting Hunsinger Law Group wasn’t just about opening a law firm; it was about creating a different kind of practice—one that balanced professional excellence with compassion and humanity. That vision sounded inspiring on paper, but bringing it to life was anything but simple.
In the early years, I faced the same challenges most entrepreneurs do: unpredictable income, long nights doing everything myself, and the constant pressure of building something from scratch while keeping faith in the mission. But I also faced deeper questions—how to balance the heart of social work with the rigor of law, how to serve clients ethically in a world that often rewards speed over substance, and how to build a firm culture rooted in both empathy and precision.
Another challenge was simply giving myself permission to grow. My international work and social service background taught me humility, but entrepreneurship demands confidence, clarity, and endurance. Learning to see myself not just as an advocate, but as a leader and a builder, took time.
There were plenty of mistakes along the way—cases that kept me up at night, systems that didn’t work, moments when it felt impossible to do it all. But each obstacle reinforced what’s most important: staying people-centered, leading with integrity, and remembering why I started in the first place. Those lessons have shaped not only the firm but the kind of person and professional I’ve become.
We’ve been impressed with Hunsinger Law Group, LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At Hunsinger Law Group, LLC, we believe that law should do more than solve problems—it should provide peace of mind and empower people to move forward with clarity and confidence. Our firm focuses on estate planning, business law, family law, and probate, serving clients across Illinois and Missouri from our offices in Chicago and St. Louis.
We’re known for combining the precision of a law firm with the empathy of a counseling practice. Every client’s story is different, and we take time to understand the full picture—their goals, values, and fears—before crafting a tailored legal strategy. Whether it’s helping a family protect their legacy through a living trust, guiding an entrepreneur through business formation, or navigating the emotional terrain of divorce, our approach is always grounded in compassion, transparency, and trust.
What sets us apart is our integrated perspective. My background in social work and international advocacy taught me that real impact comes from listening deeply and solving problems holistically. At Hunsinger Law Group, that means blending technical excellence with human understanding—because the best legal solutions aren’t just correct, they’re compassionate.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud that our clients describe working with us as different. They say it feels calm, clear, and respectful—that they’re finally being heard. That’s the heart of our brand: accessible, intelligent legal guidance delivered with empathy and integrity.
We want readers to know that they don’t have to navigate complex legal issues alone or feel overwhelmed by jargon and process. Our role is to make the law approachable and personal—to be a steady hand during major life transitions and a trusted advisor for years to come.
What are your plans for the future?
The future of Hunsinger Law Group, LLC is about thoughtful growth—expanding our reach while staying true to our core mission of making law more personal, accessible, and empowering.
In the coming year, we’re looking to grow our team in the St. Louis area, bringing on additional attorneys and support staff who share our values of integrity, compassion, and excellence. We want to continue building a firm culture where collaboration and client-centered service are at the heart of everything we do.
We’re also focused on expanding our estate planning practice, helping more families protect what matters most. Estate planning is one of the most meaningful parts of our work—it’s about providing peace of mind and helping clients make intentional, lasting decisions for their loved ones. We plan to offer more educational workshops and resources to demystify the process and empower people to plan confidently.
Beyond that, we’re excited to extend our presence across Missouri, Illinois, and eventually into surrounding states. Our goal is to bring the Hunsinger Law Group approach—combining precise legal strategy with genuine human understanding—to more communities and more people who can benefit from it.
Big picture, we’re building for sustainability, not just scale. Growth for us isn’t just about more offices or clients—it’s about deepening impact, strengthening relationships, and continuing to be a trusted partner in life’s most important decisions.
