We recently had the chance to connect with Mia Hill and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Mia, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
These days, I’m learning to take leaps of faith in areas where I once lacked the courage. Since my last interview, I’ve ended my contract with the military, begun working full-time in foster care, and then left that position to pursue photography full-time. To my surprise, my business has taken an extraordinary turn for the better—I now have more clients than I ever imagined. Quitting my stable job was a decision I’ve questioned many times, yet in this season, I’m trusting the Lord to guide this sweet business toward the higher calling He has designed for it. With multiple sessions each week, several weddings each month, and collaborations I once thought were impossible, I am living in a place where joy meets what some might call fear. All glory goes to Him!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi everyone! My name is Mia Hill—though some know me as MiaBella. I recently turned 24, and I’m now pursuing a full-time career in something I’ve been deeply passionate about for the past two years: photography.
The heart of my business is to honor God by capturing the moments He has written into each story—the joy of growing families, the miracle of newborn life, the sacred covenant of wedding couples, and the hopeful beginnings of graduating seniors. Through heartfelt, timeless imagery, I aim to reflect the beauty in life’s simplicity and preserve your precious milestones for generations to come.
In this industry, there’s often a stigma that you must stick to one specialty—but I’ve chosen to break that mold and embrace a little bit of everything! Over the past year, I’ve grown not only as a creative who captures once-in-a-lifetime memories but also as a confident business leader. I’ve learned what to do, what not to do, what to share, and how to reach the clients I’ve always dreamed of working with. No one could have prepared me for just how much growth and learning this journey would bring, but I’m here—continuing to figure it out with joy.
This year, the freedom of owning my business has opened doors for more travel, which has allowed my work to grow in exciting ways. I’ve had the privilege of capturing love stories in breathtaking places—from the stunning Napali Coast in Kauai, Hawaii, to the majestic peaks of the North Cascades in Washington. Each location brought its own unique beauty, yet both displayed the same awe-inspiring handiwork of God’s creation. I also had the honor of photographing a gorgeous wedding at the beautiful McCormick Ranch in Southern California, which is one of my many bucket list locations!
Exploring travel photography has been such a rewarding chapter in my journey, and I’m thrilled to continue serving clients not only locally but across the globe. Here’s to all the stories yet to be told and all the beauty yet to be captured!
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
Perspective is the lens through which we interpret the world, and it’s shaped by a delicate weaving of our experiences, beliefs, and the voices we choose to listen to. Society often tries to hand us its own lens; one clouded by comparison, materialism, and fleeting definitions of success, but God calls us to see through His. When we allow His truth to frame our vision, the ordinary becomes sacred, trials reveal hidden blessings, and every person we encounter is seen as His masterpiece. Perspective doesn’t just change what we look at—it transforms how we live, reminding us that while the world may pull us toward self-centered narratives, the eyes fixed on Christ will always find beauty, meaning, and eternal purpose in every moment. Perspective changes everything.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
I’ve wrestled with the fear of comparison quite often recently… measuring my worth against the successes, beauty, or talents of others. Always feeling like I came up short. It’s a silent thief, stealing joy from the moments I should have celebrated and blinding my ability to see the unique way God created me. Society feeds this fear daily, offering endless highlight reels that make it easy to forget that we’re each running a different race. But over time, God has been gently reminding me that my value is not determined by how I stack up next to someone else, but instead, it’s defined by Him alone. Learning to release comparison is an ongoing journey, but with every step, I’m discovering the freedom and peace that comes with it.
I know firsthand how easy it is to feel “less than” when the world constantly shows you someone who seems prettier, happier, or more successful. When I’m behind the camera, my heart is to create a space where people feel truly seen, not measured. I want my clients to walk away not just with beautiful images, but with a renewed reminder that they are already enough, already loved, already chosen by God. Every session becomes more than just capturing a moment—it’s about showing the beauty, worth, and story that no comparison can diminish.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
One of the biggest lies in the photography industry is that your value as an artist is measured by how perfectly curated your feed is, how many followers you have, or how “luxury” your brand looks. We’re told that success comes only if we niche down so tightly that we fit into a marketable box. That we must constantly compare ourselves to the highlight reels of other photographers, and that our worth depends on keeping up with every trend. These messages are exhausting and they couldn’t be further from the truth. The reality is, God equips each of us with a unique voice, and no algorithm or industry standard can determine the impact He designed for our work. True success isn’t about looking like everyone else, it’s about serving others, telling their stories, and creating from a place of purpose rather than pressure.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
The truth is, life is too short, tomorrow could be your last day. Caring what other people think of me is something I strive to put to the back of my mind. Why waste even a day living for someone else’s approval? I’ve spent too much time trying to impress people, when in reality—my uniqueness isn’t meant to be filtered, edited, or watered down to fit their expectations. God made me exactly as I am, with a purpose only I can fulfill, and I want to live like my time is precious—because it is. Every day I want to choose authenticity over perfection, presence over performance, and to pour my energy into the things that matter most. Ten years or not, I want to live like I have even less.
